For All Quebec

What is DFFQI?

See the 'About Us' section for the full story. The abridged version goes like this, DFFQI's Security Council were all originally members of the staff of a highschool newspaper.

Then, things changed. A new regime took over. A puppet government was put into place. The paper was turned into a piece of propaganda. The Security Council toyed around with the idea of publishing a monthly scfi-fi fanzine, but things never translated from the purely mental and hypothetical to the physical realm. Yet, all the art and substance for this mag still existed in records and archives.

Then, on a whim, one of the Security Council decided to set up a Star Wars news site. Several ideas were toyed with. Then, it was realized that everything that was DFFQI still existed.

Instead of a paper mag, DFFQI would become an internet zine. Of course, in the beginning, the site was purely Star Wars related. Within 12 hours of going online, it was decided to expand. But how could DFFQI cover more topics without redoing all the existing graphics and code?

Several ideas were toyed with. Most involved completely overhauling the just born DFFQI. One of the favorites called for the creation of DFFQI2, a Babylon 5 news site, to complement the Star Wars driven DFFQI.

In the end, out of general laziness, minor esthetic changes were made to DFFQI to allow the incorporation of other genres and topics. Yet, notice that the main page's graphics are all Star Wars related.

So, DFFQI is an internet zine covering everything from science fiction to pure science... and everything in between.

What about the name?

'Dairy Farmers For Quebec's Independence' was a name jokingly suggested for the title of the original fanzine. Surprisingly, it was the name finally chosen for the mag, beating out several more serious and/or darker titles.

Then, when the Star Wars news site was started up, a name was needed. Originally, it was going to be called 'Jimmy the Battledroid's Star Wars Page'. Other titles were also given test runs. Different graphics were tried out. Nothing looked "right".

Then, it was realized that all of the mag project's graphics still existed. Some minor alterations were made to the graphics, and they were used.

Other titles which were considered for either the mag of internet zine were:
The Kane
Dairy Farmers For Quebec's Liberation
Jimmy the Battledroid's Star Wars Page
Mr. Paladino and His Amazing Technicolor Lab Coat*
Intron Depot
Protoculture Addicts
PatriciaTallman.com
alt.nerd.obsessive
The Harlan Ellison Show
Pretty, Pretty Podme

Will we ever see a DFFQI v2.0

It's not very likely. I'm saying this partly 'cause we're lazy and don't want to redo the entire layout, but I'm also saying it because DFFQI is not graphic driven. It's not designed to be pretty and be sold because of its looks, rather it's the content that's important.

By not using frames, MIDI files, and the like, we're keeping the load time down. We want to make DFFQI easy to access. We don't want people to have to install new browsers or plugins to be able to view DFFQI.

Early on, Mr. John Paige said "DFFQI's the most functional website I've ever seen." That's what we want. We want to be the workhorse of the web... bursting with adequatullance.

What was the best movie of 1998?

The Episode One trailer, silly.

Mr. Paladino and His Amazing Technicolor Lab Coat?

Well...

I'm an avid fan of DFFQI and have noticed a slight change to the text at the top of the 'About Us' section. Why the change?

Good question. See, the bios were put up on April 19th, 1999 at 2:17PM. It was a Monday.

The text read...

"So, you want to know what kind of pale friendless loners would put this site up, do you?"

"Pale friendless loners" was a nod to NewsRadio. Specifically, Dave Foley's line "Wisconsin has a lot to offer a pale friendless virgin."

We changed "virgin" to "loner" to make it less objectionable.

Little did we know of the event to take place the next day.

So, rather than getting hate mail and having questions asked, we have silently bowed.

"Pale friendless loners" was replaced with "fanboys".

What's with the text at the bottom of the main page? When and why does it change?

The text at the bottom of the main page is just that. It's text. It's little words of wisdom and tidbits of advise.

It's changed randomly.

Here's a list of what's appeared there...

1.28.1999-6.9.1999

Fear leads to Anger.

Anger leads to Hate.

Hate leads to Suffering.

It's all good.

6.9.1999-8.8.1999

The Force is a Circle which Surrounds us All.

8.8.1999-1.28.2000
