Coldplay Cancel Tour Dates

'Flu Curtails US Jaunt

Coldplay have apologised to fans via their website, www.coldplay.com, after they had to "drastically curtail" the last leg of their North American and Canadian tour because Chris Martin and guitarist Guy Berryman fell prey to nasty flu bugs.

The cracks began to show last Friday when Martin's voice was so badly affected that disappointed fans were told that the show was cancelled only after they’d arrived at New York’s Irving Plaza. Coldplay put off their Boston gig on 17 February, but played a final set at the Chicago Metro on 19 February, because, as their manager Phil Harvery explains, "It was felt that this gig could be done as a final push."

"On the behalf of the band, I would like to apologise for the inevitable disappointment and inconvenience these cancellations cause," Harvery continues on their official website. "By way of solace, all I can say is that I am already working on an extensive North American tour for May/June."

Coldplay flew back to Britain on Tuesday (20 February), but will be returning to America for 9 April to play the rescheduled New York show at the larger venue of the Roseland Ballroom - the extra tickets for the show will go on sale soon. The Boston (17 Feb), Toronto (20 Feb), Miami (23 Feb) are cancelled until further notice.

Despite the persistence of the nasty lurgy, a spokesman for the band said that they will solider on to appear at the Brits on Monday (26 February).
