What better way to grab the ear of the American listening public than through holiday commercials? U.K. rock outfit Coldplay will have just that opportunity this holiday season, when its debut U.S. single "Yellow" will appear in all promotional spots for ABC. The track is performing well in its initial exposure at rock radio, with heavy airplay at KROQ Los Angeles and KNRK Portland, Ore.

"Parachutes," the Nettwerk album from which it was drawn, debuted at No. 12 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart earlier this month. The album bowed at No. 1 in the U.K. on Parlophone this summer, and has sold 700,000 copies to date there, according to the label.

Coldplay will be making its North American debut this February with a short tour scheduled to hit New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Boston, and Portland, Ore; no dates have been announced. In the meantime, the band will be performing in Europe through the end of the year, before heading to Australia and New Zealand as part of the annual Big Day Out festival tour.
