This is, seriously, the only lovely piece of scenery I saw in China.
It's sort of hit me that Japanese food seems to be the Great Equalizer. People who prefer Asian food like it. People who prefer western food like it. There's nothing really weird that intimidates first-timers (like duck feet, goose intestines, etc). I had always thought that middle American food was pretty unintimidating, but I realized I had it all wrong the first time I saw a European taste root beer for the first time. Apparently, it strikes them as medicinal-tasting. Not to mention PBJs! Nobody appreciates a PBJ like an American!
Su came back with me to Hong Kong on my way back home so we could hang out a bit and catch up on college gossip. :) We had dinner in TST and went to a night market. The hotel that my work puts me at in Hong Kong is very nice in a western sense. I mean, it's actually tasteful. No plastic palm trees or multi-colored sparkles. :(
But the guy had a heart of stone!
