Individualized Education and Autism
- A least restrictive environment may be in a mainstream classroom for one student with Autism, but that may not hold true another student of Autism, i.e. one student may require a support classroom with inclusion electives; this setting will still promote socialization, but it would also provide that student with the educational support they require and need.
- Placement needs to be individualized to each student and it is the school’s responsibility and the IEP team to ensure the appropriate education and placement of students with Autism.
It is very difficult to teach every child that is diagnosed with Autism the same, because no two individuals experience this disorder in the same way.
