Well this game sort
of came out of left field. Who would of thought that BioWare, creator
of Star Wars: Knight of Old Republic would create a game centered around
a mythological China? Not me. First hearing the title of the game I
guess I was a bit skeptical about it. But it was made by BioWare so
it can't suck. And by looking at the screenshots of this game, it surely
doesn't disappoint.
BioWare said that
this game contains more polygons per character compared to Star Wars:
KOTOR. And it really shows. Clothes flow in the wind as does hair, and
the characters seem really sharp and crisp all around. The video I saw
showed this huge floating mountain with four giant dragon heads that
had water flow out of their mouths as a waterfall. It really stirs up
the imagination.
The fighting is
said to be like Star Wars: KOTOR with some differences. This time you
can actually learn different styles of fighting and switch between them
in the middle of combat. So I assume there are some hand to hand fighting
along with weapons too. But that's not all, there are also magic spells
you can call upon in the form of ancient Chinese spirits. Not only that
but if you connect with a move the enemy can be sent flying through
a wall like a kung-fu flick. Very cool.
Again, the graphics
really improve upon Star Wars: KOTOR in terms of characters. But BioWare
also improved upon the environments. They seem so lush and imaginative
that you actually feel like you're in an ancient China that could have
been. It's really breath taking actually.
On top of all this,
BioWare has said that like in Star Wars: KOTOR you can choose the path
of good and the path of evil in this game. Just another thing in this
game that warrants a good look. It'd be cool to see a badass looking
monk as your player character.
Already this game
looks to be one of the best and it's a long ways away from coming out.
The date it's supposedly coming out is around September 2004, so we
all have a long wait. BioWare is sure making a name for itself in the
console area.
"I'm thinking
that choosing to be good and evil will become very popular in games
real soon. Look at Fable."
