Docking tutorial

In this tutorial we will teach you how to dock. Docking is one of the easiest things to do in Orbiter! You just need to learn how. It isn't even hard to learn either. First open the default Orbiter scenario where you are docked to the ISS in the Delta glider. Now once its loaded open up the docking *MFD with Shift-D. Then, in good practice, check your surroundings (if you are using Project Alpha's ISS, which I strongly recommend and their website is listed on the links page) and see what docking port you are at. Switch to translation thrusters using the numpad / key. Look at picture number 1, you will see a docking port forward and above like in picture number 2.

Now hit Ctrl-D to undock, wait about 5 seconds before tapping the numpad 6 key a few time to null out your velocity away from the ISS. Refer to picture number 3.

Now that you have nulled out your velocity away from the ISS hit the numpad 2 key a few times until you end up like picture number 4, Then you hit the numpad 8 key until you are no longer moving up (you want to stop moving so you look pretty much like picture 4), then hit numpad 6 key to start moving forward and when your roughly over the port switch to your rotational thrusters with the numpad / key. Then press numpad 8 key until your aligned with the port like in picture number 5. Once you have stopped your rotation with the numpad 2 key switch back to your translational thrusters. Then with numpad 6 start moving forward, but don't ever go faster than .15kph when you are on *terminal approach for your port or you wont dock. You can check your speed with the docking MFD.

As you get closer to the port make sure everything is green inside the docking MFD like in picture 6, as you get closer you will likely need to realign with the port, to do this use the translation al thrusters: 6 = Forward,  9 = backward, 2 = up, 8 = down, 4 = left, 6 = right, if you are properly aligned like in picture number 6 and are not going any faster than .15kph that you will eventually here the familiar "Hiss click-...-click" meaning you have docked.
