Hey everyone. Time for one foray into a new media-review for Izumi Co.; CD's. Today we review the Kim Possible soundtrack, song by song, which is the same format I'll take in future CD reviews. That being said, here we go!
1. Call Me, Beep Me! - Christina Millian
This is the extended version of the soundtrack, so it makes sense that it'd start out the CD. And what a way to begin things. The music is good (I especially love the first few seconds), and there's a great beat. All of the lyrics are clear and easy to remember and understand...though, not so easy to sing with unless your voice happens to be close to Ms. Millian's ^^; H-how I'd know that, I have no clue, of course...*ahem* Anyway, this song is 2 minutes and 35 seconds of happiness for any fan of the theme song.
2. It's Just You - LMNT
This song has been seen--to my knowledge--twice in the series. Once in the episode "All the News", and again in "A Sitch in Time", the KP movie. If you ask me, it fit pretty well in both places. The song is relevant to the series, which is always a good thing, especially on show-specific CD's like this one :P I mean, take a look at the chorus: "It's just you, doing the impossible. It's you, practically unstoppable. It's you, totally untoppable. It's you, it's you, it's you, you're Kim Possible." And it's not just there, but throughout the whole song. Music and tune don't help the fact that the song is one of those that gets stuck in your head. But if you're like me, that won't be a problem.
3. I'm Ready - Angela Michael
This song is a bit slow to get started, but you're feeling it by the time the chorus kicks in. Excluding the obvious choice of "Say the Word", this is a song that would be perfect coming out of Kim's mouth, or playing in the background during missions. BTW, I am fully aware of the song's usage in "Crush". But that doesn't count >P
4. Get Up on Ya Feet - Aaron Carter
Have I ever mentioned that I don't like Aaron Carter? Well, I don't. Ignoring it's singer though, this song is pretty close to rockin'. If my niece is any indication, it's a good song to get moving to :P Dancing 5 yr olds aside, it does get your blood pumping. All around good song, just a point shaved off for Aaron being the vocal behind it...
5. Celebration - Jump5
Wow, "Celebration" is an old song, isn't it? I remember hearing it when I was small...and now I feel 50 ><; Anyway, the version on this CD is (one of) the latest incarnations of the song. My opinion? Meh. I've heard better, and I've heard worse. Not one to be repeated over and over, but definitely a good listen.
6. Say the Word - Kim Possible (Christy Carlson Romano)
Man, CCR can sing, which makes this song even better, plus the fact that it's from Kim's POV. The track sounds great with the bass turned up, and the beat throbbing in your ears, heart, or wherever. Of course, the song was in the mildly recent ep "Hidden Talent." Just thought I'd mention that :P Now, is it just me, or does the video for this song lean towards Kim/Ron? o.o'
7. Summertime Guys - Nikki Cleary
Outside of being in an episode ("Golden Years"), there's not much relevance between this song and the series. Good song though, nontheless ^^ This may be obvious given the lyrics, but it's a perfect song to listen to at a beach party, or the like.
8. This Year - A*TEENS
If there is one song I'd skip 90% of the time, it'd be this one. My apologies to fans of it, but I just don't like it. It doesn't move fast enough for a song like this, and the vocals all around blow. If I had to give it one saving grace, it'd be the lyrics. Maybe.
9. Work It Out - Brassy
This song opened up the KP movie, and I can see why they chose it. The tune's driving and upbeat, and really fit well with the routine on-screen. The words lack a bit, but it doesn't detract much from the song. The main focus would be the music behind the words. The small bit between 1:24 and 1:37 is just one of the good areas of note, IMO. But then, this whole thing is IMO :P
10. E is for Everybody - Cooler Kids
One of the longer songs on the soundtrack, but a bit short. It's soft vocal-wise, and a good one to sing to. The music is cute, and fits in well with everything else. Just wish they'd done the full alphabet. I'd like to know what X is for xD There may be a longer version of the song somewhere, but it's not on this CD. Oh well. "Close your eyes and count to 10. Let's do the alphabet again..."
11. Come On Come On - Smash Mouth
Featured at the end of "Queen Bebe", helping to marl the first time anyone's played themselves on KP. Watch yourself when you listen to it, because the beat is very bopping-along indusive. Just ask Ron :P This song is another reason why Smash Mouth is counted as one of my fav groups.
12. The Naked Mole Rap - Ron Stoppable (Will Friedle) and Rufus (Nancy Cartwright)
Hmm, what to say about this song...Well, does Booyah! cover it? Just in case it doesn't, read on. I. Love. This. Song. ...Completely ignoring the fact that Ron can't sing (which was also proven in "A Very Possible Christmas"). The off-keyness of Ron's voice, though, helps rather than hinders. Songs from the characters, rather than about the characters are a plus, which is also why I enjoy "Say the Word."
13. Call Me, Beep Me! (Tony Phillips Remix) - Christina Millian
Unlucky 13 holds an awesome song. I'm a sucker for remixes, which is why I visit OC Remix often, and why this song steals the #1 position for my fav track. It's addictive! The lyrics are nothing new, but lines from the show sprinkled throughout make up for that. The music is fitting of any near-trance remix, which--I think--includes this song. Definite dance number, and a great way to round out the CD.
Overall
Ah, the familiar nitty-gritty. Even though the "Kim Possible" series and any merchandise is made for the tween set, older people can get a kick out of it too. Most of the songs on this CD are great, which is why the "Kim Possible" soundtrack gets an Izumi Co. score of:
7.0
