  • KH II Finally Confirmed???

    10/5/03
  • Kingdom Hearts II, is slated for the PlayStation 2 and takes place several years after the end of Chain of Memories. Sora, Donald, and Goofy are joined by a Jedi-cloaked Mickey Mouse as they continue their adventure into other worlds and battle the forces of an evil mummy-wrapped ruler. Whether or not Mickey will be a part of the battle team, however, remains to be seen -- as the footage we were shown was strictly taken from cut scenes without a hint of gameplay; Though it was revealed that Sora and other characters will see costume redesigns to solidify the game's more advanced timeline. Square Enix dev-team members have already been credited as saying that Kingdom Hearts II will answer several of the other games' lingering mysteries and expand upon the identity of the mysterious figure seen in the special video ending from Kingdom Hearts Final Mix. It will be co-published by Buena Vista Games and be released "sometime in 2004 and onward." We honestly wish that we could show you the five minutes-plus worth of trailer footage that Square Enix presented along with its announcement, but cameras were barred from filming these segments. But fear not IGN faithful, we're expecting more on Kingdom Hearts II fairly shortly. Wanna see more?

  • IGN: So we're gonna talk about .hack, and if you can remind the readers on our site just basically summarize what .hack is all about…the games, the movies…
Matsuyama: Matsuyama: .hack comes with two discs, one with the animation DVD, and one with the Playstation 2 game. You follow the storyline from the game with the simulated online game, and from the real world on the animation DVD. What else is new about .hack is that it is in 4 parts. It has been slated four parts since the beginning.
Something else that's different from other games is that the we also have a tv series animation which is airing in the states, and in japan we have the comics, the novels, and the radio show that's also being developed.
IGN: One of the things that is very new and different about .hack is that it is actually broken up into four chapters. So, my next question is, why the decision to break it up into four segments? Where did that idea come from?
Matsuyama: .hack follows the traditional comics in Japan. It's usually in four parts, the first part being the being, the second parts expands on it and connects to the third part, which is the huge climax. And finally, the fourth part, which is the end, and resolves everything. That's why .hack is in four parts.
IGN: And once the fourth part comes out, are there any plans to release all four parts together along with the DVDs in one box set?
Matsuyama: In Japan, we have no schedule of releasing it as a box set because the players who've already bought volume 1, 2, 3, and 4 over the span of a year. They will say, "If you guys were gonna come out w/ a box set, we would've bought that," and we would like to make sure to keep those users happy.
IGN: That would be the same for the American market as well?
Matsuyama: US-wise, if that's what the US players want, and if that agrees with Bandai of America's strategy, then we might, but we're not really scheduling so. It's really up in the air.
IGN: After the fourth installment of this story concludes, do you have any plans to then have a new four-part story after this one?
Matsuyama: .hack was a big success in Japan, and part one and two came out, part two just came out so we don't know what the reaction is but it's gotten favorable reactions so we would like make another story if possible, but it's really dependent on the players and feedback from them.
IGN: So there's no new series in the works right now?
Matsuyama: Right now, we are working on part three and four of the US release.
IGN: Where did your idea for .hack come from originally? What was the inspiration?
Matsuyama: .hack started three and half years ago and the Internet was getting big and people were talking that the next place to go is online games, but especially in Japan, the core users are junior high and high school kids, and they basically don't have phone lines in their own rooms and can't pay the monthly fees. So for those kids who can't experience online games, we wanted to make an offline/online game for them.
However, there is a little bit more history to that. They came up w/ a lot of other concepts before that, from slaying dragons or being a thief in London, and they were all basically rejected, and the final concept that came out was with .hack.
IGN: When designing a game in this format, the way that dot hack is, what do you feel is most important: story, gameplay, visuals, audio? What's the most crucial element in a game like .hack?
Matsuyama: Gameplay-wise, we think it is communication between the other players within the game.
As a whole project, we want the players to want to seek out the other mediums that we have. So, if they start with the game, they want to feel like, "Maybe I should look into this tv series that they're also showing."

    Kingdom Hearts on GBA?

    9/29/03
  • The Game Boy Advance game, called Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, will pick up shortly after the end of the original Kingdom Hearts and attempt to clear up the mysteries left by the end of that game. Judging from the clips of gameplay shown, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories will feature 2D graphics and use a similar combat system to the PlayStation 2 game. The characters in the game are made up of large sprites while the world makes use of an isometric perspective. Conversation screens make use of animated headshots of the character's speaking. • Well, if you don't already know I'm Debbie! *smiles sweetlly to everyone* O'k, ok that really isn't my name...but I'll try and update as much as possible or AMAP.. I loooove to look for things, and especially if it comes to video games! This site mainly used to be just an extra guild page from a thing called Neopets, but I decided to put it on a REAL page instead of something that Only neopians(people who are participating with the virtual-oh I'll explain later!) could see....so I decided why not put it on the web!? Sooo I did! ^+^;<--big nose! O'k, for those of you who have no clue what neopets is, neopets is a little Virtual pets thing. Millions all over have joined and the popularity is still growing!!! Wowzers (yes, yes its from Inspector Gadget) My eyes would pop out just at the sight of the many people who have joined! More updates later! Bye-Sayonara! ^^-Mountchihiro Kao!
