We Were Soldiers - Movie Review

We Were Soldiers

cover

We Were Soldiers is the story of the U.S Army Lt. Colonel Hal Moore (Mel Gibson) and his battalion of aircavalry around the time of the battle at la Drang valley during the Vietnamese War. Lt. Col. Moore whips his men into shape with help of the crusty old veteran Sgt. Maj. Plumley (Sam Elliot). They ride into battle in Maj. Bruce Crandal (Greg Kinnear)'s helicopters. War photographer Joe Galloway (Barry Pepper) joins in as the battle escalates even more. Col. Moore is forced to signal "Broken Arrow" which means that all available planes must come help an american being overrun.

This is a very graphic war movie. This movie really demonstrates what the war was like on a personal level. The graphics, sound effects, special effects, acting and cinematography were all really well done. The crusty Sgt. Major is an awesome character, that most people like right away. The action is very intense, this movie is not for the faint of heart. It depicts the after effects of troops getting hit by napalm. A very good war/historical/action movie, and for army buffs, this is a must see!
