Walking Tall

Walking Tall is a remake of a movie based on a true story. Chris Vaughn (The Rock) plays a war veteran that has return home to find his city has been infested with drugs, prostitution and gambling. Vaughn finds out that the owner of the casino is his old friend Jay Hamilton Jr. (Neal McDonough). Hamilton invites Vaughn to visit the casino. Vaughn met his ex-girlfriend there working as a stripper Deni (Ashley Scott). Vaughn started some trouble when he noticed the casino was tipping the odds with loaded dice against his partner Ray Templeton (Johnny Knoxville). After beating up much of the casino staff, Vaughn eventually gets caught and is tortured. After he recovers Vaughn learns that the current Sheriff Stan Watkins (Michael Bowen) is in Hamilton's pocket and won't do anything about it. Vaughn with 2x4 in hand takes action and get himself elected Sherrif with Ray as a deputy. Together they go up against their ex-friend Hamilton to rid the town of the casino,gambling,drugs and prostitution.

I wasn't expecting too much of this movie, and it delivered what it promised and a little more. The Rock plays a convincing 2x4 weilding Sheriff and Knoxville makes an amusing sidekick. The action was pretty good in parts, and the Rock's acting wasn't really that bad. They tried to make it more than just a cheap action movie with the plot. I think they somewhat succeeded in doing this. Some of the parts with Knoxville were pretty funny and when the Rock was bashing things with the 2x4 it got my blood up. The Rock paints a funny picture, being a hick Sherrif in the south, whose squad car is a monster truck. Some parts with the Rock's nephew in the movie were kind of cheesy, but they were trying to push the moral side of the movie in those parts. If you are looking for a pretty entertaining action packed movie, full of hard hits, shoot outs and gunfights then this is the movie for you.
