The movie Troy is a screen adaptation of Homer's Illiad. Sparta and Troy, two powerful cities in ancient Greece had just negotiated a peace treaty. Paris (Orlando Bloom) a prince of Troy fell in love with Helen (Diane Kruger) who was married to Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson) of Sparta. Menelaus was the brother of the King of Sparta Agamemnon (Brian Cox). Paris took Helen aboard his ship back to Troy. His brother Hector (Eric Bana) Troy's mightiest warrior and General told Paris that this would start a war. Paris wouldn't listen and Hector was forced to bring Helen to Troy. Paris's father King Priam (Peter O'Toole) along with his General Glaucus (James Cosmo) allowed Helen to stay in Troy.

Back in Sparta, Menelaus went to his brother for help. Agamemnon was hungry for power and this made the perfect excuse to attack Troy. He gathered all of Greece together to attack the mighty city. Greece's greatest warrior Achilles (Brad Pitt) and his loyal follower Captain Eudorus (Vincent Regan) reluctantly joined the battle. Achilles did not get along well with Agamemnon, but he decided to fight so his name would become legend. After the Spartan's launched a thousand ships to get Helen back, Achilles was the first one on the beach. He took over the temple of Apollo and killed all the priests inside. After establishing a beach head the Spartan's attacked, but were out maneuvered by the Trojans and pushed back.

After meeting a priestess of Apollo Briseis (Rose Byrne) and falling in love, Achilles decide to head home. Achilles cousin Patroclus (Garrett Hedlund) did not want to leave his commrads, and lead Achilles' men into battle dressed as Achilles. Patroclus got into a fight with Hector and Hector killed him. After the battle Achilles found out that Hector killed his cousin so Achilles went to the gates of Troy and challenged Hector. Achilles killed Hector in an epic duel. After their fight Odysseus(King of Ithica) (Sean Bean) thought up the idea on how to trick the Trojan's with the famous Trojan horse. In the end the Greeks invaded and burned Troy to the ground. Achilles while trying to save Briseis was shot in the ankle by Paris and he died.

This is a very old story so I didn't feel as if I was giving anything away. This movie is really good and it sticks pretty closely to the original tale. Brad Pitt was born to play Achilles and the new guy they got to play his cousin looks exactly like him. The fighting in this movie was amazing, from the huge battle scenes to the private duels between Achilles, Hector, Paris, Menelaus, Patroclus and Ajaz. The fight with Achilles at the start was really cool, though over really quickly. The flaming balls that the Trojan's rolled into the Spartans created all kinds of carnage. I liked how Brendon Gleeson played James Cosmo's son in Braveheart, and now they are on opposite sides. This movie delivered what it promised, and action packed greek trajedy, one of the greatest stories of all time!
