St. Anger - Metallica Review

St. Anger - Metallica

cover

St. Anger is the new album out by one of my favourite bands, Metallica. The new album was recorded with Bob Rock , their producer playing bass. They then found a new bass player called Robert Trujillo (Suicidal Tendencies/Ozzy Ozbourne). The other members, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammet played their usual instruments. The CD consists of 11 tracks and a bonus DVD is also included. The album artwork was done by Pushead.

I thought this album is pretty good, not my favourite of Metallica's. I haven't been able to really get into yet but I like what I've heard so far. A large disappointment is that fact that there are no solos or instrumentals. The CD is VERY heavy, so for the people who thought that Metallica was going soft because of S&M think again. The album seems to consist of heavy guitars and drums, and lots of lyrics which were written by all the band memebers. I haven't had a chance to look at the DVD yet either, but I think its just Metallica playing the songs. Overall not a bad CD, a must if you are a hardcore Metallica fan.

I went to see Metallica live in the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on October 6, 2004. The show start off with Godsmack, which I'm not that familiar with, but they but on a good show, with both drummers throwing their drumsticks in the air. After about an hour of godsmack metallica came on. Even though our seat were way up in the nosebleed section it was an awesome concert. They surprised my by playing No Leaf Clover and disappear which were some of my favourites of the night. The crowd was awesome and everybody there seems to be genuine metallica fans. An awesome experience and its a must to see Metallica live if you are a hardcore fan.

Also I was happy that they only played 2 or 3 songs from St. Anger, their new album which I didn't like that much. They mixed it up with alot of their old stuff like Creeping Death from Ride the Lightning and lots of Master of Puppets material.
