Their mission is to find Pvt. James Ryan (Matt Damon), an airborn soldier lost in France. Ryan's is the only surving son in his family, so the higher ups decide to send him home. Miller and his section have to find him in the torn warzone of southern France to bring him home. They travel throughout southern France trying to find airborn regiments that Ryan might have hooked up with. On their way they get in many squirmishes with germans and get help from Capt. Fred Hamill (Ted Danson) who has a Pvt. Ryan under his command, but it is not the right one.

Miller and his section find out where Ryan is from a wounded soldier. They find him holding a bridge that cannot be taken by the germans. He refuses to leave his commrades in arms, so Miller and his section decide to stay and help hold the bridge. The fighting is very intense and the are many casualties. When the smoke clears we find out the true horror of war and how men like Miller and his section sacrificed themselves to save us.

Saving Private Ryan is a very powerful and famous war movie. Almost everyone has seen it and knows it for the opening scene at D-Day. It has won many awards and is a WWII masterpiece. All the details in the movie are very realistic, watching it seems like you are there. Beside all the fighting you get a sense of the friendship between the men. Hanks does a great job as a stern Captain dealing with his own inner demons. Tom Sizemore also does a great job in a roll that is very comfortable for him, of a crusty old sergeant who has collected dirt from the various countries he has fought in. This movie has some great lines like "stop with that filthy pig latin", "Oh say can you see, Oh say can you see". This movie is a must see for anyone of all ages. If you are squeamish you may have to close your eyes in some parts, but open them again and it will be worth your while.
