National Treasure

cover

National Treasure is the story of Ben Gates (Nicholas Cage) a fifth generation treasure seeker, and his sidekick Riley Poole (Justin Bartha) who are in search of the greatest treasure of all time. To find the treasure, they get financial backing from Ian Howe (Sean Bean) and independant businessman with a shady past and his cronies David Shaw (Dayan Fisher), Powell (Stewart Finlay-McLennan) and Shippen (Oleg Taktarov). Ben and Riley along with Howe as a partner have solved the ancient clue that was given to Ben's great great grandfather by the last remaining signer of the Declaration of Indepence. As that clues leads to another clue, Howe doubles crosses Ben and Riley and tries to kill them, so he can go after the treasure by himself.

Luckily they survive and the clue leads them to the Declaration of Independance. From the previous clues Ben and Riley learn there is a clue on the back of the Declaration which leads to more clues in other famous American documents and Landmarks eventually ending at the treasure. In advertantly helping Gates, Abigail Chase (Diane Kruger), an expert on historical documents, gets sucked into the hunt for the treasure as well. Through the movie Ben, Abigail and Riley have to stay ahead of the treacherous Howe and his cronies and also from the F.B.I. agent incharge of the investigation, Agent Sadusky (Harvey Keitel). As the trio runs out of places to hide they turn to Ben's father Patrick Gates (Jon Voight). This gets Patrick messed up into the chase as well. They become Ian's hostages forced to solve clues as they get closer and closer to the treasure.

I think this was an excellent action packed, thrilling movie. The clues were very complex and interesting and almost impossible to read ahead to far in the plot. Nicholas Cage does a good job at being an excentric treasure hunter. Justin Bartha provides great comic relief throughout the movie. Sean Bean plays a convincing power hungry villian. The movie was fast paced and it won't leave you waiting for more. The Indianna Jones meets American history idea actually works very well, even if you don't know American History that well the movie is relatively easy to follow. Overall a great action packed historical movie thats fun for the whole family. I think anyone will enjoy watching it.
