The Missing

cover

The missing is a supernatural western thriller about Maggie Gilkeson (Cate Blanchet), her two daughters Lily and Dot (Evan Rachel Wood)(Jenna Boyd) and Maggie's father Samuel Jones (Tommy Lee Jones). When Lily, Dot, Maggie's lover Brake Baldwin (Aaron Eckhart) and a stable hand on the ranch Emiliano (Sergio Calderón) go off on vacation to hear their voice in a gramaphone they are attacked by a renegade band of Indians. The leader of the group Chidin (Eric Schweig) is a mystical witch doctor. He kidnaps girls along with his band and sells them in mexico as slaves.

When a horse came back to the ranch riderless, Maggie went in search of her daughters. She found Dot crying, Brake and Emiliano were both dead and Lily had been kidnapped. Maggie tried to get help from the army Lieutenant (Val Kilmer), but his men were too busy lootly to follow the right trail. Maggie is forced to get help from her astranged father who abandoned her as a child and his native friends Two Stone (Steve Reevis) and Kayitah (Jay Tavare). The movie ends with a battle between the band of renegades and Maggie's group trying to save her daughter.

I thought this was a pretty good movie. From the previews I thought it would have been more supernatural or spooky then it was. Val Kilmer has an incredibly small cameo in this movie and its a wonder why he's in it at all. Tommy Lee Jones is a solid actor and he really holds this movie together. There are some pretty good shoot outs and fight scenes in the desert. Overall I would not say this is a really good movie, but its not bad. I liked it and wouldn't mind seeing it again.
