Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne - Game Review

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

cover

Max Payne (James McCaffrey) is at it again in the his latest adventure, The Fall of Max Payne. This is the sequal to the previous Max Payne and you will see alot of the old characters in this one. Max got back on to the force thanks to what he had on Alfred Woden (John Braden). His latest case involved a cleaners company. Max also responded to a disturbance at is his friend's Vladimir Lem(Jonathan Davis) factory. Vinnie Gognitti (Fred Berman) was still alive and trying to take out the russian. With the help of Vlad's friend Mike "the Cowboy" (Gary Yudman) Max saves his friend.

While on the case Max sees Mona Sax (Wendy Hoopes) and she is still alive. Max goes through a fun house and meets her at her apartment. She tells him that the Order is trying to kill them. They go through some adventures together taking out the cleaners with style until Mona gets arrested. Max's partner Detective Valerie Winterson (Jennifer Server) and Deputy Police Chief Jim Bravura (Vince Viverito) hold her for questioning and don't trust Max. The police station gets hit by an elite team trying to kill Mona, but she escapes, with Max following after her. The plot about the cleaners leads Max and Mona back to Vlad and the Ragnaroc and Alfred Woden. Who are these mysterious cleaners working for and why are they trying to kill Max? Can Mona be trusted, why isn't she dead? What's the deal with Vlad, Vinnie and Woden, who's on whose side? To answer these questions you'll have to play the game to find out.

This game is the perfect sequel. It took everything Max Payne had and built on it, to take it up a notch. They didn't screw around with any of the good features, they just made them better. It still has bullet time, comic book style, cool weapons (Ingrams) same kind of dialogue and setting (seedy apartments) and enemies. This game is awesome. The graphics are alot better than Max Payne 1 and thats saying something. The enviroment is also much more interactive thanks to the new Havok engine. They also got rid of those annoying blood trail levels, they did have some dream levels, but they weren't as bad. The plot wasn't quite as good as the first one, but it still wasn't bad, and the amazing graphics and interesting levels made up for it. The television show idea was really built on and they were quite amusing to watch. Also characters were alot more interactive and you got to talk to, get help from and kill all different kinds of characters, from an old lady with a shotgun to a bum who used to be a policeman to drunks in jail. There are alot more modes for this game then the previous game. Overall a great game, if you liked Max Payne you will definately love this game. If you like action video games in general then go out and buy this game!
