Kung Fu Hustle

cover

Sing (Simon Chow) and his side kick Bone (Chi Chung Lam) were down on their luck wanna be gangsters in China. They went to a local rural town posing as members of the infamous Axe Gang in order to try to embezzle and harass the local inhabitants. Unfortunately the townspeople didn't buy the act and the real axe gang showed up. The town was defended from the axe gang from three local people hiding their talents as Kung Fu masters Donut, the baker (Zhi Hua Dong), The Tailor (Chi Ling Chiu) and The Coolie (Yu Xing).

The Axe gang was forced out of town. Ashamed of their defeat, but unable to beat the masters, the Axe Gang hired two hitmen The Harpists (Kang Xi Jia , Hak On Fung) to kill the three masters. The Harpists do their job and kill the three masters, but realize that there are even more powerful masters hidden in the city. The Landlord (Wah Yuen) and The Landlady (Qiu Yuen). Paris and Helen of Troy defeat the harpists, and once again the Axe Gang is forced out of the town.

The axe gang then gets Sing to release the worlds best killer The Beast (Siu-Lung Leung) from prison to kill the landlord and lady. The beast was almost beaten by the two masters, but he tricked them when they offered him mercy. Sing got involved in the fight and The Beast smashed him into the ground. The two masters took the oppurtunity to take Sing and disappear. The Beast fixed the chi flow in Sing who was "the one" true Kung Fu master. Sing then fights the beast and teaches him who is the real master.

This movie was surprisingly very good. I rented it on a whim, thinking it might be slightly entertaining and have some good martial arts, but it turned out to be a very good movie. It was extremely funny, when Sing threw the knife and it bounced back at him I was laughing histerically. The action sequences also were huge and very professionally done by the choreographer from the matrix. The movie had a very cartoony/manga/dragonballz type feel to it. A very good movie all can enjoy.
