Kill Bill Vol. 1. - Movie Review

Kill Bill Vol. 1.

cover

Kill Bill is a story about a group of assassins called the DiVAS. (Deadly Viper Assassination Squad) Its members include the following people O-Ren Ishii/Cottonmouth (Lucy Liu), Elle Driver/California Mountain Snake (Daryl Hannah), Vernita Green/Copperhead (Vivica A. Fox), Budd/Sidewinder(Michael Madsen) and their leader Bill (David Carradine). For some reason the memebers of DiVAS, decide to kill everyone an ex-member's wedding, including The Bride (Uma Thurman). The story then tells of The Bride's return to consciousness and her hunt for the now disbanded assassins.

Her second stop, that we see first is at Vernita Green's house, where an excellent knife fight insues. Next the movie back tracks, to The Bride's trip to Japan. She gets a famous Hattori Hanzo (Sonny Chiba) sword, to slice up her enemies with, and boy does she ever! When the Bride meets up with old Cotton Mouth we learn of Oren's past in anime form and how she came to be the "head" of the Yakuza. This sets the scene for an awesome battle with swords, with the Crazy 88 Oren's Gang and Gogo Yubari (Chiaki Kuriyama) Oren's homicidal body guard. The movie wraps up with an excellent battle between the two former members of DiVAS, with the promise of lots of more blood shed in the future for the remaining members.

I thought this was an awesome movie. Everything was so different then the regular hollywood type of movie. You could feel Quentin Tarantino's directors skills at work. The music and different film genre's were so weird, and yet they fit very nicely. The only things I didn't like about this movie were 1. The blood affect, didn't quite do it for me. 2. Some of the filmography, it was quite different then normal movies and was mostly well done, but some of the overhead shots made my stomach feel queasy. Overall its was a great movie, and I'd like to see it again. Also check out the review for Kill Bill Vol. 2
