Game: The Legend of Zelda
Platform: Nintendo Entertainment System
Released: 1986
Genre: Action RPG
The Legend of Zelda was the game that changed the way people
played very long games. The password
system had been used for almost two years and gamers were getting tired of
entering countless numbers of codes to continue their game play but, Zelda
changed all of that. It was the first
game to contain the battery backed memory system to save the player's progress
directly onto the game-pak. With that
fact aside Zelda had many other very notable features like a story that has
survived seventeen years of revamping and reshaping. It also marked the appearance of the now
famous Triforce. The Master Sword (although not called the master sword in the
game) also made its first appearance in this game. It also incorporated Gauntlet style combat
and the use of a life bar and healing potions.
Now onto the review, I
would recommend The Legend of Zelda to any gamer (even the ones who don't like
old school games). The control is great
even though there are only two buttons to change around it was great for it's
time. Graphics are nothing to get all
giddy about, typical NES graphics, but they are still the best possible for
this game. The music is some of the best
stuff in gaming history, to prove this play The Windwaker and you will find
that it is still used. This is my second
favorite game of all time. So if you
have the chance to play this game don't be stupid and pass up a chance like
that!

Game: The Legend of Zelda A Link
to The Past
Platform: Super NES/ Game Boy Advance
Released: April 1992/ December 2002
Genre: Action/RPG
This game was the game that made me become a Zelda fanatic. Its mix of hack and slack fighting with a
dash of final fantasy style strategy makes this one of the best games for the
SNES. This game includes some of the
most interesting puzzles in a video game and the dungeon layout would make any
Zelda fan jump for joy. The only
downfall the game has is that near the end the action starts to slow down but,
the game is so good that it doesn't make much of a difference. One thing that made me love this game is the
wide range of items (there are twenty in all), you have the hook shot, power
medallions, flute, shovel, magic mirror, and bug net just to name a few. The in game music will be very familiar to
the original NES Zelda veteran. The control is something that adds to this
game's greatness, switching items while facing a towering two headed dragon
will be less a nightmare and more an exhilarating experience that will have you
running out and getting all the Zelda games.
All in all A Link to The Past is a masterpiece of digital technology and
will not be outdone anytime soon. So if
you are an RPG fan that is looking for a little old-school action or a Ocarina
of Time or Majora's mask fan this game is definitely for you.

Game: The Legend of Zelda
Ocarina of Time
Platform: Nintendo 64/Game Cube
Released: 1998/2003
Genre: Action RPG
Ocarina of Time was the first time the Zelda series dwelled into
the realm of three-dimensional adventure.
Although some would consider it less influential as A Link to The Past I
hold it close to my heart as an epic.
Ocarina of Time took a whole new direction with the familiar Triforce
story line. While the game may look
outdated now compared to the PS2 or GCN its graphics were the best of its
time. The control also was some of the
best of its time although it used some of the older control schemes, such as
the assigning of items to more than one of the extra buttons, it pulled it off
extraordinarily. Replay value was not one
of its stronger points secret wise. You
could play through one time and get everything, but that would be very very
hard not to mention time consuming. If
you are a Zelda diehard, like me, though you will find yourself playing through
the game countless times. This is also
one of the more fun Zelda games.
Although, not linear like its predecessors you still have
to complete most of the dungeons in a predetermined order. On a final note I consider this to be one of
the best games of all time. Like I said
before if you like RPGs or just like Zelda games then get this game.
