That's All, Folks! - Toons

Ah, Toons. These decks bring back nice nostalgia from...Magic Ruler days. AGES ago. In the TCG, we're just getting decent support for the Toons now, and most of it is VERY hard to obtain. However, if you can get your hands on enough of these cards, this can be a pretty interesting deck.

If you don't read the rest of this article, read this: TOONS CAN BE ATTACKED AND DESTROYED BY NON-TOON MONSTERS. THE ANIME LIES. That is all.

All Toons have a few basic effects in common. Playing a Toon is a Special Summon. If there are no Toons on the opponent's side of the field, then they can attack directly. Also, if Toon World is destroyed while they're on the field, then they are also destroyed. Note that they say DESTROYED. If Toon World is "sent" to the graveyard, then it is NOT destroyed, and the Toons remain on the field. Also, if Toon World goes back to your hand, it is not destroyed, so the Toons remain on the field. Abuse this wording with cards like Giant Trunade and Emergency Provisions.

Toons such as Toon Summoned Skull, Blue Eyes Toon Dragon, Toon Mermaid, and Manga Ryu-Ran are part of what many people call "Toon Group A." This group has two MAJOR downsides; they cannot be summoned unless Toon World is on the field, and each time they attack you have to pay 500 LP. You have to be careful using these Toons, since they usually end up costing the user more LP then they're worth. Toon Summoned Skull and Blue Eyes Toon Dragon are the only two worth using, since Toon Mermaid is simply awful, and Blue Eyes Toon has more attack than Manga Ryu-Ran. Note that Toons are Special Summons, so you can sacrifice Scapegoat Tokens for the summoning of Toon Summoned Skull and Blue Eyes Toon Dragon. BETD isn't in this deck, simply because brute force doesn't do much in today's metagame, but it can be an option.

Toons such as Toon Gemini Elf, Toon Goblin Attack Force, and Toon Cannon Soldier make up the other group of Toons in the TCG. Unlike Group A, these Toons can be Summoned without Toon World on the field, and you also don't need to pay Life Points to attack with these monsters. The one downside to these Toons is that they require Toon World to be on the field in order to attack directly while the opponent has monsters on their side of the field. Overall, they're VERY nice monsters in general, and sometimes you'll see Toon Gemini Elf and Toon Cannon Soldier played outside of Toon Decks.

Outside of the monsters, you have one of the best searching cards in the game - Toon Table of Contents. TToC is simply an AWESOME card. It's a Normal Magic, and it allows you to search your deck for any card with "Toon" in it's name (or is named "Manga Ryu-Ran" but that's worthless anyway). This means that you can search out for another Toon Table of Contents (great deck thinning), but in this deck you'll usually want to search for a useful monster. It basically functions as Reinforcement of the Army (that can also search for itself or Toon Defense), but since it's unrestricted you can thin your deck a LOT.

Toon decks can be VERY interesting to use or play against. If you want to build one, be prepared to get a few Dark Beginnings 2 packs as reprints. The originals of all the Group B Toons are either Promos or Holo Rares in Tournament Packs, but they're commons in DB2. That's all, folks!
