This deck is a Low Level Control Deck, that uses monster effects rather than m/t effects to keep the opponent locked. Mass Monster Removal with Scarabs, m/t destruction with Locusts, and Reaper can discard their hand. I wrote an article for obeliskblue.org which describes low level decks in depth, and this was the result. Camel Control/PACMAN decks contain all of the necessary parts of Low Level decks, so this was used as the example in my article.
This theme has been my favorite for a few formats now...it's been rather interesting (and depressing) to have to change this deck from three G-Binds and LLAB's to now one LLAB and two G-Binds. I digress though; this theme has also been gaining popularity since Metagame did an article on someone who ran a version of this deck. I personally don't like that specific version, as I tend to go for a more offensive/control based route rather than the defensive/control based route.
The Swarms, Reaper, and Des Lacooda are all tripled. They're the backbone of this deck, and if one gets destroyed, you should find yourself with another copy soon enough. Medusa Worm can be used in place of a Swarm of Scarabs, as they both have the same effect. I usually use one and then maybe a second over a Scarabs, for more searching with Giant Rat.
One problem with this deck was that it was always prone to bad topdecks and bad opening hands. I tried to alleviate that problem by adding in a few more tech cards. Giant Rat and Mystic Tomato are great searchers, and they can search out the core of this deck. Sand Moth or Big Shield Guardna are not necessarily bad topdecks, and they're both very anti-metagame. Sand Moth is anti Goldd, Zaborg, and Mystic Swordsman LV2, which are all problems for this deck, while Big Shield Guardna can bait out Nobleman of Crossouts or Dark World Lightnings.
Wave Motion Cannon is not necessarily in for its effect. Wave Motion Cannon becomes the opponent's top priority when it comes to destroying m/t, so they'll waste a Mystical Space Typhoon on that rather than a face down Gravity Bind.
Threatening Roar and A Feint Plan are two cards that work very nicely in this deck. They're both chainable, which helps when they get hit by a Mobius, and they both protect against Mystic Swordsman LV2, allowing you to keep your monsters on the field. I always used Sakuretsu Armor instead, but the more I've thought about those two cards, the more I want them in my deck.
