Attack of the Swarm - Insect Deck

Insects have slowly been getting decent cards over time. From the beginning of Yu-Gi-Oh! with Man-Eater Bug, to Pharaohnic Guardian with the Swarms, to now with Doom Dozer, they've certainly evolved from the beginning. The introduction of Doom Dozer, Saber Beetle, Anteatereatingant, and Chainsaw Insect in SOI has actually led some people to claim that Insects could become top tier if someone decent tries them out.

Doom Dozer is a 2800/2600 Insect that has a Chaosesque summoning requirement - it can only be Special Summoned by removing two Insect type monsters in your graveyard from play. The other effect is simply a weak mill effect; whenever it deals damage, the opponent discards one card from the top of the deck. The mill effect isn't really worth it, but Doom Dozer overall is one of the best type specific monsters ever released. Topdecking it late game is one of the best draws you could have, as you can most likely summon a 2800 beatstick at little or no cost to yourself. The gamebreaking effect that Insects needed to break through the metagame definitely exists in Doom Dozer.

Anteatereatingant is another Insect with an interesting summoning requirement. It can only be special summoned by sending two magic or trap cards on your side of the field to the graveyard, which in itself is bad field advantage. Each turn, however, it can destroy one magic or trap card on your opponent's side of the field, at the cost of attacking that turn. Not a bad trade off, since it only has 2000 attack. The problem is protecting it - you need to lose protection when summoning it.

Saber Beetle is a 2400 6* Insect with your basic trample effect. Not much, but it certainly helps when the theme has never been known for packing much punch. Chainsaw Insect on the other hand, is a 2400 4* monster that lets your opponent draw a card whenever it battles with a monster. The downside is definitely a problem, but Chainsaw Insect is now the only 2400 4* monster that's actually usable (Armor EXE and Rare Metal Dragon are not usable in most circumstances). 2400 attack allows it to suicide with Jinzo or a Monarch. It may give the opponent direct advantage, but often times those monsters will rule the field and are a priority to be taken down. Also, it can simply attack directly without letting your opponent draw, so clearing the field with your other insects and then attacking with Chainsaw Insect will HURT.

The rest of the monsters in this deck are different from the last version of the Insect deck. Instead of trying to summon monsters through Pinch Hopper, Howling Insect now searches out Swarm of Scarabs/Locusts, allowing them to flip down on the next turn and then flip back up to destroy something. Magical Merchant is seeing play in regular decks, with it's unique ability to search for a magic or trap card from the deck. Tsukuyomi allows you to reuse your Flips, or flip down a Monarch to be taken down by another one of your monsters.

There's nothing really gamebreaking about the Magic selection, but in the Traps you're probably wondering why I included two Pole Positions. Pole Position protects strong monsters on the field from Spells as long as it's active, and I'm running Doom Dozer and Chainsaw Insect. It can also be chained to a Mobius summoning, and as long as Mobius is the strongest monster on the field, it will destroy it. It can also be used with Anteatereatingant - if you send it to the graveyard to summon AEEA, then you can destroy a stronger monster in the process. It's an interesting concept, and one that I think would work. If not, use generic traps over them.

Monsters - 20 (5 Tribute, 15 Non-Sacrifice)

Magic/Spells - 12

Traps - 8
