Fiendish Control

Fiends offer a lot of different options to build decks around. IMO, they're almost as versatile as Warriors - the only difference is that Warriors have a card that can search for them. Fiends have unique and deadly effects, that can either stand alone or combo with each other. This is where the strength in Fiends lie - you can build control decks based around Dark Necrofear, beatdown decks based around Dark Ruler Hades, Archfiend decks, Dark World decks, or strange mixes of some of those different themes. I even built a Fiend Last Turn deck last format, that I unfortunately never got to playtest. Dark World and Archfiend have their own examples on my site, and Hades beatdown is easy to build...Necrofear control can go many ways itself, and it's about time I updated this deck for this format, as Fiends can see a LOT of play nowadays.

Necrofear in itself can be built a lot of different ways; Giant Germ is a great card for Necrofear bait; if they attack one, the other two go to the field. IMO however, Germ is an outdated card for Necrofear decks. As is Kuriboh; this format will have a LOT of swarming moves, so Kuriboh will become just a bump in the road for the opponent.

Slate Warrior, Newdoria, and Dark Jeroid will most likely be your best monsters in this deck. Slate Warrior saw some play at SJC Baltimore, and was used VERY effectively. That -500 to a monster is very nice to use, and if you go on the offensive, you can even play around with the +500 to Slate. It can take on Cyber Dragons, Monarchs, and Jinzo with relative ease, since when it dies to them they lose 500 attack and can themselves die to a Cyber Dragon or something.

Newdoria has seen a lot of play in underused deck types. Tomato Control decks use this extensively, as it becomes a searchable, better DD Assailant. Don't be afraid to suicide Newdoria, as you can get a lot of advantage by playing around with the field.

Dark Jeroid is much weaker than Slate Warrior, but it theoretically does the job better. Being a 1200 monster, it won't be able to take down much, but the -800 from an opponent's monster will REALLY hurt. -800 from Cyber Dragon and it becomes a 1300 vanilla monster. Jinzo and the Monarchs become 1600 weaksticks, and anything with less than 2000 attack can be taken down by Jeroid itself. You can also target Spirit Reapers and destroy them. Dark Jeroid is a VERY comboable monster, but for some reason it is looked down upon by many competitive players. I'm personally a huge fan of it and will include two in this deck.

By combining all of these cards, you have a fairly solid Control-type deck. On top of these however, Necrofear ITSELF has a Control effect; Snatch Steal without the life point gain. It can be taken down by a Zaborg or Goldd and still get its effect. However, if destroyed while equipped to a monster (through Dust Tornado or Heavy Storm, for example), it does NOT come back.

There's nothing really fancy in the Magic selection...there's a lot of control cards like Brain Control and Creature Swap, which can be used to halt an opponent's swarm. Creature Swap can be used VERY nicely with just about any monster in the deck. Swapping a Newdoria or Tomato will allow you to get its effect. Lowering your own Jeroid and then swapping it gives the opponent a 400 attack monster. Combos abound with Creature Swap.

For Traps, there's a few interesting cards. In order to keep the deck at 40, I had to cut some key cards like Sakuretsu Armor...however, Magic Drain works VERY nicely. No matter what, the opponent will lose a Spell card. In a Necrofear deck, Field Presence is VERY important, and negating a key Spell card will force your opponent to come back. However, cards like Threatening Roar can stop an opponent from attacking after summoning a Mobius, and cards like Dust Tornado can help with m/t removal. Play around with the traps and see what you like best.

Monsters - 20 (4 Tribute, 16 Non-Sacrifice)

Magic/Spells - 14

Traps - 6
