Dark Paladin works a little differently in the current metagame than you might think it does. There are two bases for the deck - Buster Blader and Dark Magician each use different bases. Buster Blader uses a Warrior-based build while Dark Magician uses a Spellcaster-based build. In either build, you should use two of the main monster and one of the other monster. If you put in one Dark Magician to the Buster Blader build, you now how three ways of fusing DP rather than one (BB+Sub, DM+Sub, BB+DM). Emblem and King of the Swamp speed things along, so Dark Magician doesn't slow things down.
The build I use here is a Buster Blader build - Warriors are a very solid base, and after building examples of each I prefer the Buster Blader build. Dark Scorpion - Meanae the Thorn is used for her recycle techniques and can search Cliff the Trap Remover if you need fast m/t removal. Don Zaloog is a solid Warrior, and DD Survivor is used for anti-Assailant. All of the 4* Warriors can be searched with Reinforcement of the Army, allowing for some variety and great support cards.
The Dark Magician build uses Skilled Dark Magician, Toon Table of Contents, and Toon Gemini Elf/Toon Masked Sorcerer to thin the deck and get Dark Magician out fast, which in turn gets Dark Paladin out fast.
Using two Buster Bladers and Emblem of Dragon Destroyer allows you to take BB from your deck to your hand. Polymerization can fuse two monsters in the hand and put it on the field. So really, all you need in your hand is Buster Blader, Fusion Sub, and Polymerization in order to get Dark Paladin out.
Neither build uses any Dragons - powering up Buster Blader/Dark Paladin isn't worth it or necessary. Also note that DP cannot be special summoned EXCEPT by fusion. So that means if it dies, you can't Premature Burial it. You have to Fusion Summon it all over again.
