Look Ma, No Attacks! - Direct Damage

Direct Damage decks are great. It's so much fun letting your opponent sit there, knowing that he's gonna run out of LP soon, and that he can't do a thing about it. Most decks nowadays side deck into a Burn based build. This allows duelists to go on the offensive, and then switch to a very defensive type of deck. This balance between offensive and defensive is hard to find, and the side deck offers it. An interesting side deck suggestion for this type of deck would be to try an side into a Cyber Stein based build, going from defensive to offensive.

As the title suggests, you won't be attacking much in this deck. The only monsters that you really use are Cannon Soldier, Solar Flare Dragon, and Stealth Bird anyway. This deck is about protecting magic cards such as Wave Motion Cannon and Dark Snake Syndrome, while hitting them with direct damage from your monsters (and protecting them at the same time).

Wave Motion Cannon is an interesting card, and most people use it the wrong way. The card remains on the field until you manually destroy it, and it deals damage then. It doesn't come onto the field and deal 1000 damage, it doesn't get destroyed by your opponent and deal damage, it doesn't get played then go to the graveyard and kill your opponent in eight turns. It has to get destroyed through it's own effect on your main phase. Don't save up to deal 8000 damage; you can sacrifice it after 2 or 3 turns; 2000-3000 direct damage is nothing to scoff at.

The rest of the deck also deals direct damage; Stealth Bird is a solid 1000 damage per turn, Solar Flare can setup for a nice lock, and Cannon Soldier has the best finishing move in the game(your opponent have 1500 LP left? Sacrifice three of your monsters). There are a LOT of chainable traps in this deck, so you may sometimes want to wait until the opponent pulls a Heavy Storm on you to activate some of the set Traps. Don't set everything at once, and for cards like Just Desserts, wait until a Swarm occurs to activate anything. With Secret Barrel, you may want to activate it right after the opponent draws for an easy 1200 damage (six cards in hand).

Monsters - 16 (2 Tribute, 14 Non-Sacrifice)

Magic/Spells - 13

Traps - 11
