Lava Golem decks are not affected by the bans. At all. Not one of the cards are banned, and most aren't even used in decks. It's a fairly simple idea; get Lava Golem out on your opponent's field. Combine some other direct damage in, and this becomes a very formidable deck.
But why would you give them a 3000 attack monster?! So what if it deals 1000 damage to them, they'll deal 3000 damage to you! Well, for one thing, you won't be attacking. Neither will your opponent. You'll use Direct Damage to beat them rather than attack damage. Bowgunian, Solar Flare Dragon, and Stealth Bird are your main monsters besides Lava Golem. Dealing 1000 damage from Golem, another 1000 from 2 Solar Flares, another 1000 from Stealth Bird, and some extra damage from Bowgunian/Nightmare Wheel will be painful. There's really not much to say; get Golem out, keep it from getting destroyed, and deal loads of damage.
