
Dark Paladin decks are one of the easiest to use and the most powerful fusion decks out there(next to Scientist OTK, but that's not really a "fusion" deck, and TER). With the release of King of the Swamp and Night Assailiant in AST, it's become even easier to summon the Ultimate Swordsman - Black Paladin.
What is it with these discarding fusions? XYZ, Black Paladin...all of them require a discard to use their effects. Again, with Night Assailiant, your problems are solved. As long as you have one in the graveyard, just discard one, get the other one back, discard that one, get the other one back...it's an infinite discard for effects.
Black Paladin works a little differently in the current metagame than you might think it does. There is usually NO Dark Magician in the deck. Not one. Because Dark Paladin uses Polymerization to fuse, you don't need Dark Magician; you can use a fusion substitute such as King of the Swamp(Rare, AST), Mystical Sheep #2(Rare, TP2), Goddess of the Third Eye(Rare, I think TP2). King of the Swamp is the best because it comes in a normal set and can be taken with Salvage. But Salvage isn't entirely necessary.
Buster Blader IS used however. Usually you won't get it to the field, but it is used in the deck. Using three of these and Emblem of Dragon Destroyer allows you to take BB from your deck to your hand. Polymerization can fuse two monsters in the hand and put it on the field. So really, all you need in your hand is Buster Blader, Fusion Sub, and Polymerization in order to get Dark Paladin out.
But GT, Dark Magician goes with the theme! Yes, yes it does. But that doesn't mean it's good. Serpent Night Dragon is a Dragon, would you use it in a Dragon Deck? Didn't think so.
You might be wondering why the Spear Dragons are in. Well, they're good power for this deck; BP can easily hold it's own, but having some 1900s doesn't hurt. Plus, it raises DP and BB's attack by 500. Also note that DP cannot be special summoned EXCEPT by fusion. So that means if it dies, you can't Monster Reborn it. You have to Fusion it all over again.
