Injuries kept two Gold starters off the pitch but that didn't keep the home team from putting out a great effort before falling by just 8 points to the EIB Warriors in the debut of new coach David Parkin at the Mile High Oval in Denver.  Despite 4 goal efforts by Wayne Carey and Daniel Bradshaw, the Gold fell to the Warriors by a final of 98-90.  Scott Welsh and Michael O' Loughlin watched from the sidelines as the Gold battled the Warriors before a crowd of 27,772 fans at Denver University.  The Gold will look to rebound this weekend at home as they take on the Oklahoma Opossums.

GFL NEWS - "Parko" to coach Gold in 2003
3/24/03...Aussie football coaching great David Parkin on Monday announced he was ending his short retirement from the game and would come overseas to direct the fate of the Denver Gold GFL team.  In doing so, Parkin continues a stellar career as a player and coach that has seen him claim four premierships as a coach at Hawthorn, Carlton and Fitzroy in the VFL/AFL.  This past October, Parkin resigned as Director of Football for the Hawthorn Hawks AFL side.  He most recently coached at Carlton of the AFL, retiring after the 2000 season.  "I'm looking forward to the challenge of the GFL game in the states", quipped Parkin as he fielded questions from reporters at the team's practice facility in Westminster, Colorado.  The Gold are sharing the facility with the city's professional soccer club, the Colorado Rapids.  The team will play its matches at the "Mile High Oval" on the campus of Denver University.  Part of the attraction for Parkin to come to Denver was the chance to teach at the university which is one of the highest ranked in the United States.
