Media Articles:Kevin Seabury Q and A
In 2002 Dover signed defender/midfielder Kevin Seabury from then Division three side Shrewsbury Town. I managed to get him to complete a Question and Answer session, the results of which are below:
1) Being born in Shrewsbury, and raised in Shrewsbury, was it always your ambition to play for Shrewsbury Town?
KS: I joined Shrewsbury at the age of eleven and despite many trials at bigger clubs, it was always Shrewsbury where my heart was, as I supported them through my childhood.
2) Which was your first match for Shrewsbury and what do you remember about it?
KS: My first match was at York City in a 2nd Division match in which we lost 3-0. I remember it being a scorching hot day and despite losing I had a good game at right back, receiving a lot of praise from the manager and local press.
3) On a similar subject, during your time at Shrewsbur, what was your most memorable match, and why was it such a memorable game for you?
KS: We played Liverpool in the FA Cup at home. It was a full house on a sunny Sunday and Liverpool beat us 4-0. They went onto win the cup that year and had a lot of stars. I again played at right back and had to mark Steve MacMananaman. Then I played the last 15 minutes at centre-half and had to mark Robbie Fowler.
4) Which person that you met during your time at Shrewsbury Town has been the biggest influence on your career and why was this person so special
KS: My parents have always been very supportive in everything I have achieved and there have been a lot of people who have helped me along the way.
5) Being Shrewsbury born and bred and having made so many appearances for Shrewsbury Town, it must have been difficult for you to leave Shrewsbury and come to Dover midway through the campaign. What was your main reason for deciding that your future career in football was away from Shrewsbury, with you having such a strong aligence with both the club and the town?
KS: It was sad to leave Shrewsbury after such a long time but it had become clear that I had fallen out of favour with the manager and it became clear that my future lay elsewhere. I had twelve great years at Shrewsbury, but situations change and it was time to move on.
6) With Neville Southall having played with you briefly at Shrewsbury, and being the man who brought you to Dover Athletic, what was your reaction when Southall was sacked midway through March?
KS: It was a surprise when I found out he had left, but that's football. As a footballer you have to get on with it. You can't make any difference with regards to the board's decision, whether its the right one or the wrong one.
7) Expanding on the above question slightly, obviously Clive Walker replaced Southall as manager, and though Clive was assistant under Southall, he had his own ideas of how the team should play. Was it difficult adapting to Walker's different style of play?
KS: Nothing changed that much, the players were still the same, and most of the principles were the same. Both of them are very knowledgable about football with a lot of passion as well.
8) During your short and considering what has happened frustrating time at the club, what has been your highlight playing for Dover?
KS: The highlights have been the two goals I have scored, but unfortunately there were too many setbacks.
9) Having played in the Football League for over 10 years, playing with Dover was your first taste of Conference football. What have been the main differences between playing in the League, particularly Division 3, and playing in the Conference?
KS: The main difference that I have found between the leagues was I felt that there was probably more attractive football played in the 3rd division, whereas it was more route one football in the Conference.
10) Have the behind the scenes charades at the club been too much of a distraction for you and the other Dover players?
KS: They certainly haven't helped the cause. Players need security and not knowing if you are going to get paid is a big distraction and plays on your mind. Also too many changes in management tends to upset the team's routine, you just try and get on with it.
11) Finally to clear up a point most Dover fans are eager to find out, will you be staying at Dover Athletic, and if you are leaving, then what does the future hold for Kevin Seabury?
KS: My future is not yet decided. I have spoken to Clive but nothing has been agreed, so I have left my options open at the moment.
Kevin left for Welling United during the summer of 2002, but will be remembered fondly for his time at Dover Athletic.
