Ottawa Senators
MY 3 STARS

#40 - Patrick Lalime
Patrick Lalime Always a strong goalkeeper, Patrick Lalime had an amazing postseason this year. He was instrumental in Ottawa's near sweep of the Flyers, allowing only 2 goals and tying an NHL record for most playoff shutouts - 4.

#7 - Curtis Leschyshyn
Curtis Leschyshyn Curtis has been around the NHL for quite a while now, playing for teams like Québec and Colorado. He has brought a wide range of experience with him to Ottawa during his first full year on the team.

#11 - Daniel Alfredsson
Daniel Alfredsson After former captain Alexei Yashin was traded to the Islanders last summer, Alfredsson filled the role. He has done a superb job of leading the Sens even farther than Yashin had.

A Breif History PlayersPlayers Coaching & ManagementCoaching & Management
Although the Senators just celebrated their 10th Anniversary this past season, the club is actually much older. They began in the late 1800's, and have played under several names. They were cup challengers as the Generals in 1894 and as the Capitals in 1897. They then became the Ottawa Silver Seven (teams played with 7 men on the ice back then), won four straight cups from 1903 to 1906, and were runners-up again in 1906. The name was changed to the Ottawa Senators in 1908-09, and cups were again won in `09-`11, `20-`21, and `23. During this period they were points leaders 6 times. When the NHL was organized in 1917-18, Ottawa joined as one of the first four teams. They won the first NHL-only cup in 1927.
The club did not play during the 1931-32 season, and then dropped out of the NHL after the 1933-34 season. It would 60 years before Ottawa again had an NHL team. The Sens were reborn in 1992-93, and after a slow start, they captured Northeast Division titles in 1999 and 2001.
