In a fight between two of the finest defensive fighters in the EBC, heavyweight Tommy Farr (#1) wins a majority decision over Rosco Toles (#7) in 12 rounds. Farr is surprisingly aggressive early, throwing right hand leads while Toles looks a little stiff in the 1st round. Toles loosens up and starts landing a snapping jab, and uppercut counterpunches on the inside in the 3rd. Farr solidly wins round 4 and 5, with fast hands and nice footwork. Both fighters plant their feet to trade in round 7 and 8, but neither fighter is really hurt. The action slows in the 9th returning to chess tournament levels of violence to the crowd's displeasure. Toles is exhausted by round 11 and Farr cautiously outworks him while much clinching occurs inside. Toles has a nice 12th round in a last gasp. Farr takes a surprisingly close majority decision 115-113, 114-114 and 117-111. In a matchup of top cruiserweights, Carlos Cruzat (#5) wins a unanimous decision in 12 over Miguel Cea (#1). Cruzat lands the heavy artillery right away, and Cea wobbles a couple times early and suffers a swollen eye during round 2. Cea goes inside in round 3, and Cruzat is stunned by an uppercut. Cea looks very tired, holding his hand too low, as early as round 4 from the blistering body attack of Cruzat. Cea comes back strong in round 5 and the see-saw slugfest is on. Cruzat drops Cea with a shot to the liver, and Cea just barely beats the count. Cea recovers to have a big round 7, suddenly fresh and throwing haymakers. Although Cruzat has a big lead on the cards, Cea keeps coming and Cruzat keeps trading with him through the late rounds. Both fighters tire badly in the 10th, but it is Cruzat who has a big 11th round, raking Cea to the body. Cruzat takes the unanimous decision 116-112, 117-111 and 117-110. Heavyweight Paul Cavalier (#15) wins a unanimous decision in 8 rounds over Anthony Thompson (#16) in a cut shortened contest. Cavalier wins an all-action 1st round, but Thompson stuns him once. Cavalier out works Thompson on the inside in round 2 and Thompson receives a cut from an unintentional head butt. The bleeding stops by round 4, but Thompson takes a pounding while his vision is impaired. Cavalier is in complete control by round 5 after Thompson tires. He lands the right with impunity and every Thompson miss draws a jarring counterpunch. The pattern remains the same until Cavalier reopens the cut in round 8. Since the cut was from a head-butt we go to the cards where Cavalier has a big lead. Heavyweight Gunboat Smith (#17) wins a one-sided unanimous decision over rookie Eddie Wilson (UR) in 10. Smith easily outboxes the green Wilson, using his acceptable defense to make Eddie miss repeatedly, while landing occasional overhand rights. Wilson starts to take a beating in round 3, and Eddie looks tired and roughed up after the round. Smith lands a big left hook early in round 4, and Wilson's defense collapses as he staggers to the ropes to absorb some big shots to the head. Wilson fights back hard in rounds 6 and 7, but Smith makes him pay to the body. Smith stuns Eddie again in round 8, but Eddie bravely fights back in a fight that he is out of it on the scorecards. Smith floors Wilson in round 9, but Eddie rises at 3 covering up and never throwing a punch. Smith drops him again in round 10 with a body punch, but Eddie again gets up at 5 to finish on his feet.

EBC heavyweight boss Jimmy Young (Chmp) wins a unanimous decision over Canadian Elzear Rioux (#2) in 15 action packed rounds. Rioux staggers Young early in round 1, but smoothly moves away while pumping the jab. Rioux takes round 2 while Young clinches. Rioux again staggers Young in the 3rd, and Young starts to look like the fat lazy Jimmy that was defeated by Zora Folley last year. However Young gets the jab going in the middle rounds. Rioux staggers him again in round 5 but Jimmy slickly escapes. Rioux continues to hammer Young, who keeps his hands moving enough to steal a couple of the middle rounds. Rioux tires in the 8th, and Young throws 2 jabs then clinches over and over again frustrating the weary Canadian. Rioux wobbles Young late in round 9, but again Jimmy clinches and covers up to escape. Young smoothly outboxes Rioux late, though Rioux again staggers Jimmy in round 11 with a flush right hand. Rioux goes all out in round 12, and Young absorbs 5 flush right hands, only to pump the jab late in the round making it close. Rioux has a last gasp in the 14th, but again Young's granite beard allows him to take some big shots, then come right back. Young pops the jab while Rioux fruitlessly pursues him around the ring in the final round. Young takes the unanimous decision and defends his EBC heavyweight crown successfully for the second time. Heavyweight Gerald "Tuffy" Griffiths (#4) scores an 11th round TKO over tough-guy Von Clay (#20) in a savage display. Griffiths aggressively works inside to good effect in round 1, flooring Clay for a 3 count late in the round. Clay never really recovers, and Griffiths roughs him up in the early rounds. Clay comes back strong to stagger Griffiths a couple times in round 4, finally landing a couple wild right hands. Griffiths recovers to drop Clay for a 7 count in the 6th with an uppercut to the point of Clay's chin. Clay begins to sport a swollen eye, and Griffiths slows the pace in round 7, resulting in a shaky head butt call against Tuffy costing him a point. Griffiths floors Clay again late in the 8th, blasting him down with a body shot to the liver. Clay rises at 8, and wobbles Griffiths as the round ends. Round 9 is a toe-to-toe slugfest with each man hurt. Griffiths floors Clay again with a big shot in the 10th, but Clay gamely rises at 6. Griffiths again drops the nearly senseless Clay in round 11. He rises at 9, but the referee waves the fight off at 1:54 of round 11. Light heavyweight Lloyd Marshall (#2) scores a 9th round knockout of Moses Sorovi (#5) in a surprisingly competitive fight. The heavily favored Marshall outguns and outclasses Sorovi early, flooring him for a 3 count late in the 1st round. Sorovi surprisingly hurts Marshall in round 2, and Marshall's face begins to swell from hard hooks. Sorovi can't keep up the pace, and Marshall hammers him with beautiful power punch counters in the 3rd and 4th. Sorovi wilts in round 6, and Marshall easily controls the action with his jab, not taking any chances with the powerful islander and protecting his injured left eye. Sorovi wobbles Marshall in the 7th, but Lloyd slows the action further, doing a lot of clinching and trying to focus through a worsening swelling. Early in the 9th, Marshall lands a clean uppercut that drops Sorovi for a 9 count. Marshall swarms the helpless Sorovi until a body punch puts him down for the full ten. Light heavyweight Joe Knight (#6) scores a 6th round knockout of rookie Frank Minton (UR). Knight dominates every second of every round, dropping Minton in round 6, and again for the count in round 8. Marshall and Knight will meet for the vacant EBC light heavyweight crown in November at a venue to be announced.
