Top heavyweight contender Cleveland Williams (#1) scores a brutal knockout of Frank Yarchan (#4) after almost being stopped himself on a cut. Yarchan counters nicely on the flailing Williams early, but Cleve lands a couple nice shots late in the round. Suddenly with 3 seconds left in round 1 Yarchan lands a left hook that gashes Williams over an eye. The doctor has a look but the fight is allowed to continue. Williams starts throwing leather with urgency in the 2nd, and Yarchan wobbles, ending up with a swelling eye from a thudding right cross. Williams backs off a bit when the cut is finally closed before round 3, and Yarchan starts to score from the outside. Early in round 4 Williams lands a looping right hand to the temple that stuns Yarchan. Williams lets it all hang out, just pummeling Yarchan in the corner. Frank finally goes down from the barrage and Yarchan is counted out after the bell for the end of round 4 sounds. Light heavyweight Joe Knight (#1) scores an 8th round TKO over Chic Calderwood (#3) for a swollen eye, in a fight between two top light heavyweight contenders. Calderwood lands a flush right hand early in the first, and Knight backpedals, countering brilliantly on the wild-swinging Scotsman. Calderwood starts to swell around an eye as early as round 2, but it doesn't stop Chic from landing a thudding right hand lead. As round 3 begins, Calderwood bull rushes Knight who hits him low, costing Joe a point. Calderwood is greatly slowed by the foul, and Knight lands repeatedly from the outside. Calderwood's eye starts to look bad, and the action slows to a crawl as the pair wrestle around in the 4th. Calderwood tires after that, and Knight starts to land 2 and 3 punch combinations on the half blind Calderwood. By round 8 the eye looks so bad that the doctor has a look and advises the referee to stop the fight. In a battle of light heavyweight contenders, Nicky Piper (#7) overcomes a closing eye to win a unanimous decision over Willie Featherstone (#6) in 10 rounds. Featherstone lands a couple thudding shots early, but Piper stuns Willie just as the first round ends. Piper moves forward behind right hand leads thinking maybe Willie is still hurt, and he floors Featherstone for a 5 count with a body punch. Willie is recovered half way through round 3, and he hurts Piper with an uppercut on the inside. Willie really opens up in a wild 4th round, and Piper's right eye begins to puff up. Featherstone has his way in the middle rounds as Piper blindly probes with the jab. Piper lands a big uppercut that floors Willie for an 8 count with a minute left in round 6. Both fighters are pretty tired and Featherstone survives. The next 2 rounds are dull with many clinches, but Piper dominates the final 2 frames emptying his guns. Piper takes the close but unanimous decision 95-93, 95-93, and 96-92. Light heavyweight Lloyd Marshall (#11) wins a solid unanimous decision over Tom Collins (#8) in 8 rounds. Marshall easily keeps Collins on the end of his jab early, showing some great footwork that puzzles Collins. Marshall lands a strong right cross in round 3, but he gets careless and Collins blasts a left hook that wobbles Marshall late in the round. Marshall tightens his defense up again, and a couple of slow rounds of Marshall clinching and running bring the boo-birds out. Marshall traps Collins on the ropes, then opens up with power punches in round 7. Marshall looks much fresher late, and he dominates the final round.

Heavyweight Irish Tommy Martin (#19) scores an 8th round TKO over Louis Monaco (#20) when Louis' eye becomes too damaged to continue. Monaco gets the jab going early, and Martin is made to look bad for a couple rounds. Round 2 is a see-saw thriller that sees each fighter come up stunned. Martin lands a couple really nice uppercuts that put Monaco on the run in round 3, and Monaco starts to show a swelling under his left eye. Martin drops Monaco with another uppercut, but Monaco rises at 3. Louis fights back, but Martin again stings him to the body coming close to flooring Monaco again. Martin continues the assault in round 6, so the now half-blind Monaco hits him low. Martin quickly recovers but it costs Louis a point. Monaco's eye continues to worsen so Martin starts to jab from the outside with great success in the 7th. Monaco's eye closes completely in round 8, and after Martin scores repeatedly with the jab, the referee stops it. Heavyweight Elzear Rioux (#16) wins a unanimous decision, roughing up brave Scott Frank (#17) for 10 rounds. Frank comes out scoring with power punches, but Rioux times a jab to land a crushing shot to the midsection. Frank goes down for a 2 count, and Rioux doesn't have enough time to press his advantage. Frank recovers completely and has Rioux covering up from blistering combinations by the end of round 2. Rioux lands a huge left hook that wobbles Frank early in the 3rd, and as Scott staggers backward Rioux lands a half-punch half-push that floors Frank who gets up without a count. Rioux blasts the left hook in there and Frank almost goes down again as round 4 ends. Rioux stings Frank in the 5th again, but Frank holds and scores inside. Frank really starts taking a beating in the 6th, when Rioux finds the range on the right hand landing five or six flush shots. Frank staggers Rioux early in the 7th, but Elzear comes back to floor Scotty with a pair of left hooks. Frank gets up at 8, but there's no fight left in him. Frank holds and Rioux tries to land while being mauled the rest of the 9th. Rioux puts Frank down for a 6 count early in the final round, and Frank gets up to trade. Rioux absorbs a couple nice shots, then lands a big left hook that floors Frank with 5 seconds left in the fight. Frank somehow gets up, but the decision is Rioux's by a wide margin. Rioux shows he is the better fighter, but Frank shows heart and courage in defeat. Light heavyweight Frank Tate (#15) scores a 3rd round TKO for cuts over rookie Jock Taylor (UR). The pace is dreadfully slow early, and neither fighter endears himself to the crowd until Tate does some nice body work in round 2. Tate switches to the head in round 3, landing an impressive array of punches including a left hook that cuts Taylor badly on an eyebrow. The ugly flapping cut causes the referee to stop the fight immediately. Light heavyweight Charley Horn (#2) wins a 6 round majority decision over rookie Gerhard Hecht (UR). Hecht sticks and moves well for 2 rounds, but then Horn starts to land more frequently in the 3rd and 4th. Hecht seems to tire late and Horn walks away with it.

In a battle of top cruiserweight contenders, Marvin Camel (#2) scores a bloody TKO over Sebastian Rothman (#1) in 7. Rothman lands a thudding uppercut early in the 1st, and Camel is in big trouble when Rothman rakes him with power punches on the ropes until the round ends. Rothman again hurts Camel with shots on the inside, but Camel lands a hook that cuts Rothman to the bone over his eye. Rothman bleeds freely, but continues to hammer Camel. Rothman times the jab to land a perfect uppercut that drops Camel for a 5 count in round 4. Rothman has trouble seeing to catch Camel when Marvin runs. The action slows in the 4th, when Camel cautiously probes at Rothman's cut eyebrow, and Rothman misses often because of his impaired vision. Rothman catches him with a couple flush right hands in the 5th, but Camel again rips the cut open. The blood really starts to flow in round 6, when Camel opens another cut on Rothman, who butts Camel cutting him on the inside of his right eyebrow. Camel again damages Rothman's cut eye in the 7th, and the doctor has seen enough blood. TKO for Camel. Cruiserweight Carlos Cruzat (#5) wins a majority decision in 8 over James Salerno (#4). Heavy trading commences immediately, and Salerno stings Cruzat with a powerful uppercut in round 1. Salerno opens a cut under Cruzat's eye with a snapping left hook, and Cruzat goes crazy after seeing his own blood. Cruzat blasts Salerno to the ropes and hammers him with hooks to the head the whole rest of round 2. Early in the 3rd Salerno ducks right into an uppercut that stuns him and causes a big cut over James' eye. Salerno is badly shaken by the cut and Cruzat unloads. Cruzat further worsens the cut in round 4 and the doctor has a look. Cruzat continues the assault late while Salerno bleeds and wipes his eye mostly. Cruzat injures his shoulder in round 6, but Salerno is too far gone to mount a comeback. Cruzat takes a curiously close majority decision. Light heavyweight Harry Greb (#13) batters Henry Maske (#14), taking an 8 round unanimous decision. Greb staggers Maske a couple times in round 1, and Maske has a lot of problems with Greb's swarming attack early. Greb has Maske in big trouble in round 3, and Maske can't figure out a way to keep Greb off. Greb rocks him again in round 4, and Maske looks tired out from catching nasty punches on the inside. Maske has a good round in the 5th when Greb works inside and rests a bit. Maske counters well in the 7th when Greb wildly tries to finish it. Greb staggers Henry with a looping hook with 30 seconds to go, but Maske stays standing and Greb takes the unanimous decision. In the opener cruiserweight rookie Ivy Brown (UR) wins a unanimous decision over fellow rookie Francisco Stevens (UR) in 6. Stevens lands a couple flush right hands in round 1, but Brown comes back to land a tremendous right hand late in round 3. Stevens wobbles Ivy late in the 4th, but Brown drops Stevens with a perfect uppercut for a 5 count. The knockdown proves to be the difference as Brown takes the unanimous nod.
