In an important battle of top heavyweights, George LaRocco (#10) and Danny McAlinden (#6) fight to a 12 round draw. LaRocco lands a stiff right cross early in round 2, but McAlinden comes back with an overhand right that drops LaRocco for a 4 count. McAlinden lands a few more thudding shots before the round ends. McAlinden again stings LaRocco early in the 3rd, but LaRocco comes back to wobble Danny. This sparks a heated exchange that sees each fighter staggered more than once. McAlinden starts to swell up in round 4, from straight right hands landed by LaRocco. McAlinden throws caution to the wind and unloads power punch after haymaker in round 5. Danny seems punched out and LaRocco cautiously advances behind a snapping jab, worsening the swelling on McAlinden's eye in round 8. McAlinden lands a flush right hand early in the 10th, and LaRocco hangs on drawing boos from the crowd. McAlinden's eye closes by the final round, prompting a check by the doctor, and LaRocco takes full advantage winning the final round big. The final result is a draw scored 114-114, 116-112 LaRocco, and 115-113 McAlinden. In a battle of ranked cruiserweights, Sebastian Rothman (#6) scores a 4th round knockout of Joey DeGrandis (#1). Rothman comes out quick and aggressive, beating DeGrandis to the punch early. DeGrandis gets the light footwork going in the 3rd, but Rothman still outworks Joey. Degrandis lands a crisp counter hook that stings Rothman early in the 4th, but Rothman roars back with an uppercut that drops Joey to the canvas. DeGrandis rises, just a fraction of a second too late. Light heavyweight Pedro Cesar Duarte (UR) scores a quick TKO of Jerome Clouden (UR) in round 1. Duarte lands a couple good shots early in round 1. Suddenly Duarte unleashes a nasty straight right hand that obviously breaks Clouden's nose and starts a torrent of blood. Clouden turns away holding his face, and the referee stops the fight 2 minutes into round 1. In a battle of light-heavyweight rookies, Harry Greb (UR) scores a viscious 4th round TKO of Dave Davis (UR). Greb swarms all over Davis with thudding punches, and Davis is completely unable to deal with such an intense attack. Greb has him in bad trouble by round 2, and the now puffy faced Davis can't land a blow on the Human Windmill. Davis' eye looks worse and worse and the referee almost stops it late in the 3rd. Greb traps Davis in a corner early in the 4th, and whales away until Davis goes down for a 7 count. Davis gets up, but Greb tears into him and finally referee Mickey Vann has seen enough with 30 seconds left in round 4.

Heavyweight Gerald "Tuffy" Griffiths (#12) takes a unanimous decision in 10 rounds from Fighting Bob Lawson (#13). Griffiths is the aggressor in round 1, but Lawson hurts Griffiths early in round 2 with an uppercut. Lawson opens up stunning Griffiths again with a right to the body. Griffith hits Lawson low, drawing a warning early in the 3rd. Furious, Lawson comes right at Griffiths landing some big shots while Griffiths covers up. Both fighters work inside in the 4th, and each fighter is stunned in the furious windmilling action. Griffiths sticks and moves in the 5th, but Lawson lands another big right hand at the bell. Griffiths loads up an uppercut early in the 6th, and suddenly Lawson looks weary absorbing Griffiths' punches. Lawson lands a straight right hand that hurts Griffiths early in round 7, but he's far too tired to finish Griffith. Tuffy keeps a much higher workrate the final 2 rounds, and he takes the unanimous decision. Cruiserweight rookie Jean-Marc Mormeck (UR) scores a 6th round knockout over Booker T Word (#4). Mormeck lands crisp punches in round 1, and stuns Word with a sharp left hook as the round ends. Word paws tentatively with the jab, and Mormeck waits until the end of the round to unleash a right hand that drops Word for an 8 count. Mormeck continues the assault in round 3 stunning Word with a left to the body, when suddenly Word throws a right hand that starts in the parking lot. Mormeck takes it on the temple and goes down for an 8 count. Word lands a couple good hooks, but Mormeck survives. Mormeck isn't intimidated and comes inside, working Word's body in the 4th. Mormeck lands a good right hand late in the 4th that causes Word's left eye to start swelling. The action is close in the 5th as the phone booth warfare continues. Mormeck drops Word with a left hook for another 8 count early in round 6. Late in the 6th, Mormeck lands a counter left hook to the body, that puts Word down and out. In a battle of middleweight rookies, Lloyd Marshall (UR) scores a 3rd round knockout of Ralph Calloway (UR). Calloway is never in it, as Marshall connects with a stunning right hook 30 seconds in, and Calloway covers up the rest of the round while Marshall fires. Calloway holds and moves until Marshall explodes a perfect left hook to the temple 45 seconds into round 3. Calloway goes down and doesn't move for at least a minute. In the opener, Charley Horn (UR) wins a majority decision in 6, over fellow light heavyweight rookie Rocky Jones (UR). After a feeling out round, Horn does some good work on the inside. Both fighters trade heavy leather in a very exciting 3rd round. The action moves back outside in the 4th, allowing Jones to utilize his superior hand speed to win the round. The action slows to a crawl in the final 2 rounds, but Horn is more active to take the majority decision.

LHWRay Anderson (UR, 0-0-1, 0KO) D8 Tommy Dragon (UR, 0-0-1, 0KO)

Heavyweight contender Tommy Farr (#2) takes a unanimous decision over rookie Lorenzo Canady (UR) in 10 rounds. The action is surprisingly close early, but by round 5 Farr starts to wear Canady down with his accurate jabbing. Farr is completely in command the rest of the way, cracking the less experienced Canady with an instruction book full of punches. Farr takes the unanimous decision. In a battle of light heavyweight contenders, Chic Calderwood (#2) wins a unanimous decision over Eddie Spence (#1) in 10 rounds. Calderwood looks slow early, and Spence pumps the jab. Calderwood comes inside and lands some good shots in the 3rd, but he still looks slow-footed. Round 4 is a back and forth slugfest. Calderwood lands a ripping right hand to the body that stuns Spence, then floors him with another. Spence rises but Calderwood blasts him to the canvas again with a right hand. Spence again rises after the bell. Spence slows the action, but Calderwood scores a flash knockdown just as round 7 ends. Spence isn't deterred and comes out firing, but Calderwood again drops him in the 8th. Spence survives, but Calderwood takes the unanimous decision. Light heavyweight rookie Jorge Ahumada (UR) scores an 8th round knockout over rookie Heidenheim Brugger (UR). Ahumada brilliantly jabs Brugger to pieces early, but Brugger lands a crippling right hand as round 2 ends. Ahumada shakes it off and takes the next round, cracking Brugger's defense with straight punches. Brugger runs out of gas in the 5th, and Ahumada takes advantage. Ahumada drops Brugger with a right hand for a 7 count. Brugger rises but Ahumada puts him down 3 times in the final round, and Brugger is counted out with 6 seconds to go. Light heavyweight rookies Ray Anderson (UR) and Tommy Dragon (UR) fight to a majority draw in 8 rounds. Anderson boxes smoothly for 2 rounds, but Dragon stuns him with an uppercut in round 3 that cuts Anderson's nose. Dragon again hammers Anderson in the 4th, and blood continues to stream from Anderson's nose. Anderson starts to land again in round 6, but the nose continues to bleed. Anderson dominates down the stretch, and the final result is a majority draw scored 76-76, 76-76 and 78-74 for Anderson.

EBC - Memorial Auditorium - Buffalo, NY
HWZora Folley (Chmp, 7-1-0, 2KO) L15 Jimmy Young (#7, 8-1-1, 0KO)
LHWJoe Knight (#9, 2-0-0, 1KO) W12 Al Gainer (#7, 1-1-0, 1KO)
LHWEric Harding (#10, 2-0-0, 1KO) TKO8 Alessandro D'Ottavio (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)
LHWPrentiss Hall (UR, 1-0-0, 0KO) W8 Freddy Mack (UR, 0-1-0, 0KO)

Heavyweight Jimmy Young (#7) becomes the new EBC heavyweight champion winning a unanimous decision over Zora Folley (Chmp) in 15 rounds. After a feeling-out round, Young establishes the jab, keeping Folley out of range and scoring often. Folley looks befuddled in round 3, as Young dances and counters. Both fighters land well in the 5th, and Folley wonders where the fat, lazy Young he defeated last August was. Young continues to land stinging jabs and right hand leads at will. Young is jabbing Zora to pieces in round 8 when Folley lands an uppercut to the chin that roccks Jimmy as the round ends. The fight becomes a clinch fest in round 9, and Folley lands a couple nice shots on the inside in the 10th. Young lands an obviously intentional head butt that costs him a point in round 11. Young's left eye swells in the 12th, and Folley lands much more frequently including another uppercut that almost drops Young. Folley starts to swell himself in round 13, and Young lands many right hands as Folley paws at the eye. Folley can't land a single punch in the 14th, and Young lands snapping jabs and counter hooks over and over. Folley knows he needs a knockout as round 15 starts and he lands a big uppercut out of the box. Young recovers and the two take turns clinching and throwing right hands. The final round is dead even, the final scoring is not. Jimmy Young becomes the new EBC heavyweight champion by a score of 144-141, 144-141 and 145-141, avenging Young's only loss as a pro, to Folley last August. Light heavyweight Joe Knight (#9) wins a majority decision over Al Gainer (#7) in the best matchup at this weight yet. Gainer takes the first round with a powerful body attack that stuns Knight a couple times early. Knight starts moving well, working the jab from outside while Gainer vainly pursues. Knight really has it going on by the 4th, and Gainer looks a bit winded from chasing the ghost in front of him. He finally lands a couple big shots and catches up to Knight to hammer him to the body in round 5. Although Gainer occasionally lands a flush right hand, Knight dominates the middle rounds. Gainer lands a couple power punches that rock Knight in round 11 but Knight holds and survives to take the majority decision. The scoring is actually a draw on one judge's scorecard. Sheesh, he must have been getting a beer during the middle rounds. Knight should top April's ratings when they are issued. Light heavyweight Eric Harding (#10) scores a TKO for swelling on rookie Alessandro D'Ottavio (UR) in round 8 of their scheduled 10 rounder. Harding completely outclasses the Italian, winning every round, and raising a swelling on an eye as early as round 2. Harding works on the swelling with his jab in the middle rounds, and D'Ottavio can't land a punch half-blinded as he is. Alessandro lands a right hook that cuts Harding's mouth on the inside in round 6, but Harding doesn't seem to notice. Both fighters take a breather in the 7th, but Harding continues to sharpshoot the eye until the fight is finally stopped at 2:33 of the 8th round. Light heavyweight rookie and hometown boy Prentiss Hall (UR) takes a unanimous decision over Freddy Mack (UR) in 8 rounds. Mack lands a hard right hand that stuns Hall just as round 1 ends, but Hall boxes well to take round 2. Hall continues to be elusive in the middle rounds, making Mack miss and countering with quick shots. Hall lands a thudding left hook counter, then gets a little brave and Mack unloads a right hand that almost puts Hall down. The two trade the rest of the round with Mack definitely getting the better of it. Mack looks a little punched out as Hall boxes from the outside well in the 5th. Hall is outboxing Mack who comes inside in round 6, when Prentiss lands a crushing uppercut that has Mack close to out on his feet. It's too late in the round for Hall to do much damage, but Mack looks like a corpse as he stumbles back to his corner. Hall boxes cautiously the rest of the way and takes the unanimous decision to tumultuous cheers.
