Once a jock, always a jock.

        Unlike the naval forces, the dirtside battles were fought between almost identical forces built around a core of heavily armed and armoured piloted battlemechs.  If the mechs were the kings of the battlefield, then the mechwarriors were the stars of the combat . A mechjock was the stuff that legends were made of, either that or he was dead but then aren't all legends??? There was little or no real higher organisation in either side. Battlegroups were formed around mech lances of the great houses which were reinforced with battalions of planetary armour and infantry. The strength would be dictated by availability of troops and intensity of the combat.  The two following pages describe the structure of the forces involved in the fighting on  Helbeth III in the Bir Halef sub sector
