OK then. I'm not going into great depth with this one, but basically, Sonic and Knuckles, when linked with Sonic 1, gets you this monstrous mini-game thing, where you play as either Sonic or Knuckles, playing through literally millions of Sonic 3 Special Stages. Sounds fun eh?
You can either collect all of the blue spheres (that is the plan) and not bother about the rings, or, bother with collecting the rings also. To gain rings from spheres you must find a group of spheres on, say, a square. Run around all of the spheres on the OUTSIDE of that square to produce rings. What is the point of collecting rings you ask? If you get a 'Perfect' (collecting all of the rings in a stage), you advance 10 levels instead of just 1 if you hadn't bothered.
If you complete the stage, you get this cool little 'Congratulations' screen. If you get a 'Perfect' however, you'll get access to another little screen which tells you how difficult it is to get a 'Perfect' from the level you were just playing. Good eh? Er, not really. It's always nice to know how skilled you are though, just to expand your ego that little bit further.
Right, now we know how many levels there are. I've got nothing else to say about this game, so this is a good opportunity to go on about the High Scores. Go there now, there's a new league opening every month, and basically you try your best to be the best Sonic player there is. Sounds good, eh? Damn right. Go there now.
Well, this'll certainly last in terms of longevity, but as far as innovation goes, this is near the bottom of the pile. It's just a bunch of Special Stages for crying out loud! Still, there's a password system available, and since this is merely a filler anyway because S&K's supposed to link with Sonic 3, this 'game' is good for a bit of spare time.
Sonic Score: 4 out of 10!
