The Story:
A threat has come to South Island, Dr. Robotnik has set his eyes on the remaining 5 Chaos Emeralds and has grabbed the Red Chaos Emerald. Robotnik sent the remaining 5 to a parallel dimension. A dimensional quake has caused South Island to start sinking into the ocean, Sonic & Tails must get the 5 Chaos Emeralds and stop Dr. Robotnik before South Island sinks all the way.
The Gameplay:
Two ok Sonic 8-Bit games on the Game Gear, then Sega gets serious with this awesome title, Sonic Chaos (Sonic & Tails in Japan). The gameplay is like other Sonic games, go from start to finish collecting rings and smashing Badniks through the way.
New additions include the move like the Super Peel-Out from Sonic CD where you hold up on the D-Pad, and press the 1 or 2 button continuosly to get more power, then let go to blast off in a run. Or you can press up on the D-Pad and do the same move but as a Super Spin Dash which is faster then a normal Spin Dash.
Other new features are the first time ability to play as Tails in 8-Bit action, which as Tails you can fly to higher or harder to reach places. Sonic can also reach Special Stages if he collects 100 rings, and use the new rocket shoes, though Tails can't.
Other then the Rocket Shoes which take you flying through the air for while, there's another new item called the pogo spring, which will send you bouncing until you smack into a wall, get attacked or jump off. The other items are the same as any other Sonic game.
There are 3 acts in each stage, the third is short and has the final boss at the end. There are also rings in boss levels and it takes 5 hits to destroy them, the bosses aren't too tough either.
As I said before, to access the Special Stages to collect Chaos Emeralds, you must collect 100 rings as Sonic. In the Special Stages you must reach to the Chaos Emerald in 60 seconds or else. There are big rings and small rings, big rings give you 10 rings, there are also Timer Boxes that'll help you very well. After dying or collecting a Chaos Emerald, you'll be brought to the next act. If you collect all the emeralds you get to see the good ending after defeating Dr. Eggman.
