The Story:
Sonic decides to take a vacation on a planet called Little Planet, which strange enough only appears on the last month of every year over Never Lake. Strangest of all is Little Planet has no time - no past, present, or future. The Time Stones must be the reason why: these are found on the Little Planet. Sonic likes the idea of a vacation there, but Dr. Robotnik has his eyes set on the 7 Time Stones. He also took advantage of the time and conquered the past so he rules the future. Knowing Sonic would arrive, Dr. Robotnik created a robotic version of Sonic called Metal Sonic to keep him busy. Also, at the beginning of Collision Chaos Dr. Robotnik kidnaps Amy Rose. Our hero Sonic The Hedgehog must stop Robotnik from taking the Time Stones, deal with Metal Sonic, save Amy Rose, and destroy the robots of the past...
The Gameplay:
Sonic CD, the first and final game on the short lived Sega CD, and it served the Sega CD well. Sonic CD has different features then any other Sonic game, with wider level designs, an anime opening and ending, and no Yuji Naka which is surprising.
The gameplay is as of any Sonic game, collect rings to survive, get items, run up Loop-De-Loops, and get to the end. Also, get 50 rings to head to the Special Stage and the lampposts to save your space in case you die.
There are several different modes to play in. You can start a New Game which saves after a level is completed, Time Attack mode which lets you race through levels already completed and you can put your initials up to see who's the best if you let friends try out. There's also a few hidden modes after you beat enough of your old times.
The moves are the same as normal, but the Spin Dash is a little strange and slower then normal. There's also a new move called the Peel Out, which you press up on the D-pad and press A, B or C to rev up, in order to get a fast running start.
There are 7 levels in all which are as follows: Palmtree Panic, Collision Chaos, Tidal Tempest, Quartz Quadrant, Wacky Workbench, Stardust Speedway and Metallic Madness. Each level has three acts, or rounds as they call them. The third act is a boss fight, it only takes 3 to 4 hits to defeat a boss but they're more tough then usual.
New features that hasn't been in any other Sonic game are the Warp signs. There are two warp signs, future or past, run past it to spin it to the bottom of your screen, once you hit full speed running with stars behind you for about 4 seconds, you'll be warped to past or future. If you stop running too soon you'll blow the warp and won't be able to use it.
To get a good ending, you must head to the past, destroy the boss and then head to the future to get a good future which has no enemies or anything but happy little animals. Also, you could collect all 7 Time Stones to get a good ending instead of going through the first way to get a good ending. You must have 50 rings or more at the end of a level to head to the Special Stage to get a Time Stone.
The Special Stages are in 3D like always, with a flat Square ground and 3D like sprite Sonic that autimaticly runs forward so you must steer him right or left. To get a Time Stone you must destroy all 6 UFO's hovering off the ground in under the time limit, and you must keep track of the ground obstacles. When you destroy a UFO you'll get a power sneaker to give you extra speed or 10 rings. When the clock hits 20 a blue UFO will be in the middle which when you destroy it, you'll get 30 more seconds.
