The Story:
A routine mission leads to the discovery of a transmitting device which is calling an unidentifiable spacecraft to Earth. Problem is, the craft is covered by a huge layer of space junk... should it hit Earth, the damage would be catastrophic. It's up to the Burning Rangers to get to the heart of this junk barge, and find a way to stop the monster before it breaks into Earth's atmosphere.
The Gameplay:
Burning Rangers is all about fast reflexes. With only 4 levels, the style of play is like NiGHTs, all about replaying it over and over again.
At the start, you can choose from only 2 playable characters, which are Amabane or Tillis, two rookie Burning Rangers. Each have the same levels but different cutscenes and endings, so you should play as both to get both endings. There's also passwords to play as the 4 other rangers, but you cannot save.
There's several moves to do to keep yourself alive. A and C are the jump buttons and in air they both can make your character to a quick dash-like move. You can also do a fast sideways tumble by taping A or C and along with left or right on your D-Pad. Perform a back somersault by simultaneously pressing A or C and down on the D-pad. To paddle underwater press the D-Pad in the direction you want to go, press A or C to go back up from the water. Hold B down to dive. You can swing the camera around by pressing L or R and get a precise view from any angle by holding down Y and moving the analog stick around. Press B to fire off a shot, to put out fires and collect crystals. The longer you hold B down, the more powerful the blast. But the more powerful the blast, the less crystals you'll get.
Crystals are like your health, when your injured then their scattered around like rings and you must collect them before they disapear. If you get injured without crystals, then your dead. Red Crystals are worth 1 and Green are worth 5. You can get crystals by searching stages or putting out a fire with a normal shot.
Mechs roam the stages and you should keep an eye out for them. But they aren't too tough and with a few powerful blasts, they'll be toast.
Though there's no time limit to complete a stage, there's a Danger Limit. The Danger Limit is a warning that starts at 0% and when it hits 100%, game over. You can't stop the Danger Limit, but you can slow it down by putting out fires. After 20%, flames get more intense.
You fight a tough boss at the end of each stage. There's 3 major stages, one practice stage and a really long final stage. You are graded from S-D, and S is the best you can get. Grading goes by how many crystals you collecting, your Danger Limit percent, How many survivors you've saved, and how long it took to defeat the boss.
The Intercom System carries the storyline along. Your teamates are around the level the same time you are and your paths cross at times. When your not around, they keep you up to date on the Intercom System. Chris navigates the whole team, hes like the ring leader. She will lead you through to the exit of each level through the intercom, but you should always save the survivors and collect items first. By pressing the Y button, you can send a quick message to Chris if your lost and need a useless tip.
Theres a mail system that can be accessed from the options menu in which survivors send you art, letters, and so on in your special "Email".
