The Story:
The story is, the last time Sonic & Robotnik wen't head-to-head, Sonic blasted Robotnik's Death Egg to smithereens. The explosion heaved Sonic deep into the Floating Island's Mushroom Hills!
Sonic knows that many emeralds including the Master Emerald is hidden all over the Floating Island. He bets this Knuckles The Echidna character knows where they are! Sonic can't let Dr. Robotnik get his hands on the Master Emerald. He'd have death Egg fuel forever - and Floating Island would be destroyed!
Now Sonic's got two problems. How to protect the Master Emerald? And how to keep Knuckles off his back? He'll have to deal with that wild echidna right away.
The Gameplay:
The very first Lock-On video game, which means that you can lock on other Sonic games (Sonic 1-2-3) on to of it and play extra modes and levels. Like, Sonic 2 you can be Knuckles, Sonic 3 is all the levels from Sonic 3 to Sonic & Knuckles back to back. Sonic & Knuckles was a way Sega could get more money, they took Sonic 3 and made it into two games instead of one large version. This was an excellent idea by far.
Sonic & Knuckles has the same graphics and gameplay as Sonic 3, but when connected to Sonic 3 it'll have tons of extra's. For example, you can collect all 14 emeralds, Super and regular to become Super Tails, Hyper Sonic, or Hyper Knuckles. Other features are Knuckles being in Sonic 3.
Gameplay was almost like Sonic 3 but the levels were longer the normally. Like Sonic 3, each level had a boss at the end, Act 1 had a mini boss then Act 2 had Dr. Robotnik normally.
