Japanese gov't to sponsor anime production

As part of their campaign to promote anime, the Japanese Ministry of Culture
announced their intention to give financial aid to "promising" anime
projects beginning in 2004. The program aims to find and develop new,
younger anime creators with the hopes of channeling their artistic

New Takahashi TV Anime

Shogakukan's Big Comic Original Magazine has announced a new TV anime based
on the work of
Rumiko Takahashi.
The only details known are that it will run under the title
Rumiko Takahashi
Theatre this summer. Past shows based on Takahashi's works have been wild
successes on both sides of the Pacific, so there should be no shortage of

- The official Japanese homepage for the upcoming Jubei Ninpucho TV series
is now online. As a matter of trivia, the Japanese production has now
officially adopted the American title "Ninja Scroll" as a subtitle.

The latest edition of the ICv2 Retailers Guide To Anime/Manga
suggests that over one thousand individual anime DVDs will be released
during the year 2003. Furthermore, the number of manga trade paperback
releases is expected to surpass 700. Both values are indicative of the
rapidly expanding industries, as the predictions are significantly higher
