Moths
Overview: In the city of Misplaced Optimism, your moth is your best friend. You use it to get around, trade, fight, and scavenge. Everyone seems to have one but everyone uses them differently. This section is designed to tell you all about each of the Moths and to show you how to use them to the best of their abilities in all situations. It also gives you vital stats on the Moths so you know which of their abilities to use to your advantage.

Silver-Y - Moon Moth - Neo Tiger - Hawk
Death's Head - Police Moth - Swallow

Silver-Y
Considered to be the weakest Moth, you start out with a Silver-Y in the original version of the game. While it's slow, has a weak hull, and can't be armed with a turret, this Moth is small, versatile, and if the right pilot is behind the seat, virtually impossible to hit. It's low target profile makes it somewhat useful in a lot of situations. The combination of the Silver-Y and evasive armaments is a great thing to take advantage of on the offline game but if you plan on using this moth online, just hope that everyone underestimates you.

Upgrading: I wouldn't upgrade this Moth a whole lot. You should try to make as much money as possible and get rid of the thing. Make sure you have your own hangar first so you can remove all the equipment (pod, drone, etc.) and then go trade it in for something better. If you purchase any software for this Moth, don't go beyond anything Level 2 and don't get Auto Pilot. For a Moth this weak (or any Moth for that matter), the slow Auto Pilot system is sure to get you killed.

Making Money: If you're trying to be an Aggressor with this moth, pick fights you know you can win and if you get in trouble, get as far away as possible as fast as possible. If your going to be a trader, be sure to make short runs as not to get caught under fire by some greedy pirate. If you want to be a scavenger, find fights or follow people carrying valuable cargo, in both situations, there is most likely going to be some goods to pick up.

Moon Moth
The Moon Moth is one of the better moths in the game. It has about the same hull strength as a Neo Tiger but has a much sharper turn. In fact, it has the sharpest turn available. When carrying cargo, a Pod and, a Drone, this moth becomes very slow. This is it's only major disadvantage. Compared to the Silver-Y, the Moon Moth is a much better dogfighter. It's sharp turn allows it to stay behind opponents and evade their fire. Upgrade this Moth heavily and keep the load light so this versatile Moth can fight with the best of them.

Upgrading: This Moth has to be upgraded carefully. It will benefit from all the software upgrades except Auto Pilot (that software is useless). Get a Turret quickly so that you can shoot at enemies that come in from behind. Stay away from Large Pods so you can maintain what little speed you have and try to get an Engine 2 early on because the Moon Moth is the slowest Moth on Titan with an Engine 1. The only way to get an Engine 3 in the Moon Moth is to start out as the Godfather in the upgraded game.

Making Money: Sadly you cannot be a Taxi like the computer Moths but you can make a small profit bounty hunting. If you choose your opponents well and have an appropriately fitted Moth, bounty hunting can be somewhat easily performed. I wouldn't use this for trading because a Moth of this speed would be an easy target for a Pirate. I also wouldn't recommend scavenging as it requires the speed reducing Pod and Drone, despite these negatives, all jobs in this Moth would be easier than they would in a Silver-Y.

Neo Tiger
The Neo Tiger is a real step up from both the Silver-Y and the Moon Moth. It is the fastest Moth in the game save the Swallow (upgrade only). Not only is fast, it maintains it's speed with a Pod and Drone. It's main disadvantage is that it has the widest turn. This can be offset by hitting maximum reverse while turning and then switching back to full speed. This moth can also be fitted with any upgrade like the Largest Pod and Engine 3, both of which are unavailable to the Silver-Y and Moon Moths.

Upgrading: Upgrade this Moth to the max. When equipped with an Engine 3, only the Swallow can catch it. It can be fitted with a Turret and I suggest that it should be fitted with the turret as it offsets the wide turning radius. Although it can be fitted with a Pod and Drone and still maintain it's speed, I suggest that you stick with the Small Pod so you maintain more of that speed. Once again, full software upgrades except Auto Pilot.

Making Money: This is a good Moth for all occupations. This Moth can catch up to or get away from any Pirate. When your in serious trouble, don't be afraid to run, you will get away. This moth is great for Trading because you can always escape a fight, great for scavenging because you'll beat other scavengers to the punch, and great for fighting because you can outrun all of your opponents if you can't outlast them.

Hawk
The Hawk is most likely the most common Moth on all of Titan. It has very well rounded stats and can be used in many situations. It's hull is tougher than a Neo-Tiger's, it's faster than a Death's Head and can turn sharper that both of them. It maintains speed with any pod and drone making it ideal for trading and scavenging. Despite all of it's high points, it's got quite a few lows. It's slower than a Neo-Tiger, not as well armed as a Death's Head and is nearly as easy to hit.

Upgrading: I suggest that you upgrade a Hawk similar to a Neo-Tiger. Get a reasonable Pod, Medium works well. Get a Turret to prevent sneak attacks and use evasive items to do away with the high profile. I can't stress enough that all software is good except Auto Pilot. I wouldn't suggest going below a Engine 2 because Neo-Tigers will be your worst enemy if you do. Don't sweat it too much. A well equipped Hawk is a great thing to have.

Making Money: Hawks are good in all areas but they excel at Scavenging/Pirating. Use the sharp turn to take down an opponent with valuable cargo. Use it's other abilities to get to the cargo fast and make a profit. This Moth is also good for trading as it can take more of a beating than most if it can't avoid one. The major positive feature of this Moth is that you don't have to watch your back as much.

Death's Head
While a lot of fun, I suggest that you only use this Moth if you're an experienced pilot. This Moth is not only has the toughest hull but it can carry 20 of every single missile in the whole entire game not including a Laser, Turret, and Plasma Kannon. The disadvantage to this is speed, it's the 2nd slowest moth of all. Despite it's low speed, it has a nice turning radius so it can evade some fire. When using this Moth make sure you're the one attacking and use everything you've got to kill an opponent. Be sure to have an Afterburner so you can try to escape if you're in serious trouble.

Upgrading: Engine 3, Afterburner, Maximum Weapons, No Exceptions. If your going to have this moth then you have to have all of these things to survive. If you don't have these items then your going to get fried for sure. Let me just tell you that your going to have to be rich to own this Moth. 20 of any kind of missile is going to cost a lot not to mention that this Moth is pretty pricey by itself. It's a full time job maintaining this Moth.

Making Money: What ever you do, don't be a trader. Try to stay away from pods and drones and be an aggressor. Moreover make sure you always get the drop on your enemies. While it may not be good for trading and scavenging it's a great aggressor because if it's huge arsenal and massive range. Be sure to use both of the attributes to the best of your ability.

Police Moth (L-2000)
This is the Moth of a dogfighter. It has the most well rounded stats as it's the 3rd fastest, 2nd toughest, and has 3rd sharpest turning out of all the Moths. It's no wonder it's used by the police. The major disadvantage of this Moth is the difficulty to obtain. It's the hardest moth to get and when you do you may have to pay up to 40K to get it. Luckily, it's worth it. Just be sure that if you do get it, don't take it for granted, and don't get killed even if you do have a clone because it'd suck to get a new one.

Upgrading: Upgrading this moth can be simple. Use an Engine 3 so you can outrun Hawks, Death's Heads, and Moon Moths (why run from a Silver-Y?). Stick with my usual recommendation of a Small Pod and Drone and you won't get slowed down much. Be sure to get plenty of weapons as the L-2000 can hold quite a few of them. If you stick with the usual upgrading plan, the only thing you have to worry about is the fact that Police Moth or no Police Moth, the real Police know who you are...

Making Money: Do whatever you want with this Moth, it can do nearly anything. Once again, I recomend Aggressing/Piracy as this Moth was built to fight and it's the Moth that whoops your ass if you don't get amnesty. Despite the fact that it does great as a Pirate, don't overlook trading because this Moth can move and take hits.

Swallow (Upgrade Only)
The Swallow is my personal favorite Moth. It's faster and stronger than a Neo-Tiger and turns sharper too. So you must be wondering, what's wrong with it? Well, it can't be fitted with a Turret. This may be a problem for some of you but I have no problem with it. This Moth is great because it's still the fastest with the Largest Pod and Drone (and comes equipped with both). It can easily be hopped (exit your moth and get into another) at Riverside Construction, Alpha Construction, Highrise Construction, and Waterfront Booze. The hopped Moths come with 20 Fireburst, 5 Devastators, 10 Swarm, and 10 Flares. If you hop one and you want to keep it, take it to a dealer where you can purchase one you're flying.

Upgrading: There's little to upgrade if you hop one of these. All you have to do is upgrade the software a bit (no Auto Pilot) and get a Plasma Kannon and your done. While you can do that and only that, I recommend getting Small Pod so you can enjoy more of this Moth's speed. This Moth comes equipped with a Fusion Cell and Engine 3 so very little work is required. You can also go through and hop each Swallow, use all the weapons and return them to save a little cash.

Making Money: This Moth can do anything. It can trade and scavenge well because it's still the fastest with a pod and drone so you can outrun any Pirate. As a pirating Moth it's unparalleled because it can fight, run , and take hits. Do what ever you want with this Moth because it makes everything possible!
