When you jump into a wall, you fall down - but, when you're getting back up, you're invincible for a moment.
With certain guards, there is a delay from the time you enter a screen until they start shooting. If you shoot at them as soon as you enter the screen, they don't have time to hide. You can them leave that screen and return, repeating the process until they're dead.
