Scrabble v1.21 *PATCHED*
July 28th, 1999

Hasbro Interactive's CD-ROM Game of Scrabble was originally designed
for Windows 3.1. The 32-bit Windows 95 version is a direct port of
the original Windows 3.1 code (the code was written with Borland C++
4.5). As such, the programmers at Random Games wrote the original
version when 256 color display adapters were the status quo. Today,
most people run their Windows 9x in 16, 24 or 32-bit color modes.
While Scrabble is a 256 color game, it is capable of running in higher
color modes. Unfortunately, the programmers of the game placed a check
in the code to make sure that the game is run in 256 color mode. They
should have instead checked to make sure the game was running in 256
OR HIGHER color mode.

I found it to be annoying to have to switch my display settings
back and forth between 256 color and 16/24-bit modes, so I patched
the SCRABBLE.EXE to also run in all color modes 8-bit and higher.
The program will still NOT run in 16 color or monochrome mode.

I don't know whether or not anyone else has released a patch to fix
this annoying little problem, but I am releasing this patch to the
public because it is just too handy.

BONUS: If you have installed the Scrabble 1.21 Patch and the Gaming
Zone still complains that the patch must be installed, double-click
the SCRAB121.REG file contained in the zip file to hopefully fix the
problem. It is possible that your Windows Registry entry for Scrabble
has become corrupt.

Enjoy.
