DCOC - Attack from Defense

The DCOC meeting of September 2005 resulted in a rare case of Attack from Defense. To explain what happened I have included the orders and a map, along with an explanation of the actions

The Map before the Russian retreat from Munich

DCOC Sept 2005 - Attack from Defense - Retreat

Explanation

It is important to perform this resolution in an orderly fashion to clearly establish the final positions. [Note 1] Firstly Hol & Ruh support Kie against an attack from Mun supported by Den & Ber. Since both sides have a 3 unit attack, Kie stands and Munich fails to get in. [Note 2] Bur & Kie support Tyr to Mun. Kie is permitted to support an attack into Munich because the prior attack came from that direction, While the Bur support would not also be required in this situation, it helps provide a 3 unit vs 1 (Mun) dislodgement. Russia will be required to retreat from Munich (see map 2 above).
