RUHR

Doug-About

As Germany, the most important internal zone is the Ruhr Valley. Once invaded it causes all sorts of problems being located next to 4 important centres (Bel, Holl, Kiel, Mun). It can also be used as the launch pad into France through Burgundy or Picardy. The Ruhr Valley, one of the world's most vital industrial regions, is in west central Germany, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The 235-km-long Ruhr River and its tributaries--the Mohne and Lenne--water the region. Overlying one of the world's most extensive coal deposits, the region's industries produce steel, iron, and other metals, and chemicals. Duisburg, the great RHINE RIVER port, serves as the entrepot for the Ruhr Valley. The Ruhr's industrial development began in the early 19th century. The area endured heavy Allied bombing during World War II when 75% of its facilities were destroyed.
