How do I play a multiplayer game?

You need to have installed gamespy arcade. Open it and then open Cossacks. Click multiplayer and then internet game and you're playing.

What is the most useful tactic when on defense?

That's a tough one. But there are a few basic defensive techniques that are commonly used and should be known:

How do I break a strong defense?

Telling you exactly how to do this would number one, be impossible, and number two, ruin the purpose of the game. Have cannon superiority as you always should and break down the defense with mercenaries. Then send in your cavalry and then if you need to, infantry. For more information, I urge you to visit the other sections of my site-battle tactics section.

First, let me start off by saying we run games over LAN and we use version 1.15.

How do you save a multiplayer game so you can finish it up the next day? How do you load a multiplayer that you saved? Also can you use the autosave and not save the file? Currently we go into the menu and click save and name it a file. But it looks like it is like a single player save and we do not want that. Does everyone have to save the game? We tried going to the menu and everyone saving a game with the same name but that did not work. Does the names, teams, colors automatically pop up from the previous game, or do you have to reset them? Do you have to set a game exactly like you played before (such as resources, map type, etc).

I know little on the subject as I do not play using LAN and I usually have enough time to finish games. But I do know that only the host needs to save the game. When playing it again on multiplayer, just select the map with the name of your game on it. More on that at Cossacks Heaven-here.

I'm a little confused about training troops in the barracks. Do I upgrade, attack and defense first, and and then build my army? Or do I build first and then upgrade after? Now I'm further into the game, I don't get time to upgrade before I'm attacked and I haven't built enough troops to defend my town. What should I do?

Your first priority once a barracks is built at the beginning of the game is to get some pikeman pumped out to guard your peasants buildings and mines. After that, the method depends on the situation. Say for example, you are only playing against the Computer on easy mode. Once your buildings are guarded, just make a few formations of 36 to start off and then begin your upgrades. How ever if you are playing on the hard difficulty or against a person in multiplayer then the effective method is as follows:

Build your first barracks. Make a large amount of pikeman to guard your buildings and peasants (50-75 pikes should do fine)

Build your second barracks. The first one should continue with pikes and pike formations (ignore musketeers for a while, but when it is later into the game then follow the same method for them. For information on when and why to build musketeers visit
