This was written by: Tony Hedstrom t.hed@excite.com Have you ever had a favorite video game, (NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, etc.) and wished that there were Game Genie codes for that game, but found out that Galoob never made any codes for it. Well, now there is a way to get codes (sort of) for almost any game on almost any system. While they are not actual Game Genie codes, they can accomplish the same effects. Here is what you'll need: 1: An emulator for the system you want (i.e. NESticle, ZSNES, KGEN98, etc.) 2: The ROM for the game you want codes for 3: A program that lets you change the memory that a program on your computer is using (i.e. WinHack, Cheat-O-Matic, etc.) Several of these type programs can be found at www.gamehacking.com You can also download Cheat-O-Matic from my Download page. By reading the instructions that come with WinHack or Cheat-O-Matic, you should be able to figure out how to do this. But I'll include a few examples anyways. The first game I tried this on was the 100% english translation of Final Fantasy 2 for NES. This one was fairly easy to find. The code for how much money you have is xC2B330:2C1. Remember, this is for the memory that the emulator is using, not the actual game, although there is a correlation between the two. The next game I tried was LHX Attack Chopper for the Genesis. I originally wanted to find the code for how much gas you have left, but I didn't have any luck. I did however, find the code for how much ammo you have. The code for how many sidewinder missles you have is x836F0303:335. If you change it to a high enough value, it also increases the number of hellfire missles you have. The last example I'm giving was also the hardest to find codes for. The game is Death Duel for the Genesis. I tried finding codes for how much money you have, how much time you get, etc. But after hours of trying, I had no luck. Finally, I found a tricky way of getting more money. By finding the code for how many weapons you have bought, and changing it to a higher number, you can sell some of the weapons back to the shop and receive credit for them. The code for how many grenades you have bought is x836E2585:783. So far, every game that I've tried to find codes for, I've had success. So, if you have a game that you can't find any Game Genie/Shark codes for, try using a program like WinHack, or Cheat-O-Matic (there are many others), along with your favorite emulator, and start poking around. It brings new life to some old games. Thanks, Tony Hedstrom
