Server
problems:
(August
5, 2002)
Well
I've unfortunately had some last minute Internal server errors. I hope
to have it up later tonight, or at the very least tomorrow. So check back
often.
New
Host update!:
(August
3, 2002)
Well
I just finished the layout entirely and am now beginning the tedious process
of moving every single file on from one server to the other. While I am
currently running a full day behind, I'm still aiming for the August 5th
Re-Open date (for once in this site's history I'd like to meet a date I
set). Also, the poll looks kind of odd because it is now optimized for
the new site, and will look normal on the new page. So until August
5th, at 5 PM (Central)...
New
Host found!:
(July
29, 2002)
Good
news everyone, I have found a new host! I am currently getting everything
read for the launch date, tentatively set at next Monday, August 5 at
5 PM (Central). Starting then you will automatically be redirected
to the new site. I've already finished setting up NewsPro, and the brand
new (pop up free) Forums. All that's left are some minor tweaks to the
layout, and then I can begin moving all the stuff from this server to the
new one. So be here,
Next monday!
Happy
Birthday Nintendo Zone:
(July
5, 2002)
Yesterday,
America celebrated it's birthday, and so did the Nintendo Zone! The
Nintendo Zone was started two years ago on July 4, 2000 at this very site.
In the two years the site has had it's share of ups and downs, and a little
under 20,000 people have seen the site since the opening day. So
I missed my goal of getting 20,000 visitors by the second year mark, but
at our current rate we should be there in a couple weeks. For next
year I'm shooting to double the size of the site in almost every category.
Also I'm still searching for that right host for the site and the new layout.
And as my Birthday surprise for you, the readers, you can see a preview
of the new layout here.
So here's to two years of Star Cube and GameCube, Yamauchi and Iwata, and
a bunch of fun. Bring on the next year!
What's
going on here?:
(June
22, 2002)
You
may have been wondering why I haven't updated in several days, and why
I haven't updated the Resident Evil Guide, as I promised. Well I'm currently
constructing a brand new layout, and was (until last nightack soon for
exciting new changes to the Nintendo Zone.
More
Nintendo commercials soon:
(June
12, 2002)
Ad
Age Magazine is reporting that Nintendo of America is planning on spending
25% more on advertising GameCube software. Heavier advertising has already
begun for the upcoming Eternal Darkness, due out at the end of this month.
Commercials for it can be seen more often during adult geared television
shows. ED commercials have already been spotted during Jerry Springer and
Howard Stern, and
Happy
Birthday GBA:
(June
11, 2002)
It
was one year ago today that all of us here in North America got our hands
on the Game Boy Advance. Since it's release it has sold more than 6 million
units here. Nintendo has released a Limited edition Platinum GBA to celebrate
the milestone. You can see the commercials for the new limited edition
GBA on TV now.
What's
up with me:
(June
7, 2002)
Just
thought I'd update you on what's been going on with me, and the site. First
off, as of yesterday, SCHOOL'S OUT! I've got a summer of fun, relaxation,
and site updating. Also, I'm now a proud owner of Photoshop, which will
allow me to make new and better site images. This has also helped me to
vastly increase the amount of my new layout that's done from less than
10% to well over 75%. Which means you can expect to see my new layout soon,
hopefully within the next 2 weeks. Also, expect to see the final two parts
of the Resident Evil guide to be up soon. That's about it for now, I hope
everyone has a Great Summer!
Resident
Evil Guide:
(June
3, 2002)
It's
my great honor to present to you, my in-depth guide for Resident Evil (GCN).
Only Part One of the guide is done so far, and so that is all that is currently
there. But it takes you pretty far into the game. Parts 2 and 3 should
be up in the next week. In the Guide you ill find screenshots from the
game with key items and puzzle pieces circle in red, movies (soon), and
more. You must be a member of the FREE
Mailing list in order to view it right now, otherwise you'll have to
wait for the, in my opinion, the best FREE RE guide around. Without further
ado, my Resident
Evil Guide.
-Take
a look at this example of some of the useful things you can find in the
guide, here.

REVIEW:
Resident Evil:
(May
27, 2002)
At
long last Resident Evil has arrived. But can it beat it's stereotype of
being a stale rehash? Is it changed enough for RE veterans to enjoy the
game? Click

Star
Fox Adventures- 4 players?:
(May
26, 2002)
On
the back of the upcoming Star fox Adventures game box (shown at E3), it
shows that the game is a 1-4 player game. Could there be a 4 player mode
in the new Star Fox Adventures game? Or is it just the default symbol until
it's finalized (like with the 00 number of blocks). See for yourself:
That's
all, folks!:
(May
25, 2002)
The
Electronic Entertainment Expo 2002 (E3) officially ended yesterday, and
while it wasn't quite as big as last years E3, it was still very interesting
to watch. More and more details are coming out about such titles as Super
Mario Sunshine, The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid Prime. Along with changes
in management, game delays, and more. I'm hoping to get some previews done
based on the new E3 information that's come out. I'm also working on a
few reviews right now, so stay tuned.
Animal
Crossing details:
(May
25, 2002)
It
has now been discovered that the upcoming Animal Crossing GameCube title
will be fully translated (text, furniture, holidays) to English. It was
also discovered that a memory card will be included with the title, just
like in Japan. It's being bundled with the game to make it easier to trade
your town with friends. It will most likely be the Memory Card 59 and not
the Memory Card 251, since the 251 is more expensive, and much more space
than will be needed for game saves.
Yamauchi
officially retires!!:
(May
24, 2002)
It
was announced today that Hiroshi Yamauchi, the president of Nintendo for
over 40 years, will retire and be replaced by Satoru Iwata at the end of
the month. Iwata has already made a name for himself at Nintendo, being
a board member and Nintendo's business planning department. The retiring
Hiroshi Yamauchi made Nintendo into the company you know today, and really
deserves his retirement. Good luck to Mr. Yamauchi!
Harvest
Moon GCN:
(May
24, 2002)
In
the latest issue of Nintendo Power it was revealed that "Harvest Moon:
A Wonderful Life" will be released for the Nintendo GameCube sometime in
2003. It will feature all new vegetables, farmyard animals, and the return
of the ability to get married. Expect to see more on Harvest Moon: A Wonderful
Life in the coming months.
GBA
Cartridge price drop:
(May
24, 2002)
While
Nintendo was unveiling it's top Game Boy titles at a press conference it
privately informed licensees that they would once again be dropping the
production price of the Game Boy Advance game cartridge. The price of the
4k EEPROM cartridge has dropped from $12 to $9 a unit, bringing the cost
for GBA cartridges lower than those for the Game Boy Color. This new price
cut is sure to lead to lower GBA game title prices in the coming year.
Nintendo's
E3 Press Release:
(May

Nintendo
has released there official press release for E3 2002. Go ahead and check
it out, it should catch you up on quite a few things that have already
happened. To see it, Click

GCN/GBA
connectivity details:
(May
21, 2002)
Thanks
to Nintendo's press conference today, we have learned some more details
about the GCN/GBA link cable and what it will be used for in the future.
They reconfirmed it's use as a motion sensing controller, like in Kirby
tilt and Tumble. But they also announced a new feature which will allow
you to upload edited levels from the Donkey Kong GBA version to the GameCube
version. They also announced the new Game Eye, which will capture an image
of someone's face and morph it onto a character body in a GameCube title.
E3
2002 is underway!:
(May
21, 2002)
E3
2002 has finally arrived. You will be able to find all the latest information,
news, images, and more from the show all day long. To kick off the festivities
I've uploaded a batch of screenshots from upcoming games (Zelda, Metroid
Prime, Mario Sunshine, ect.) shown off E3. You can check them out, and
all E3 Updates at the newly launch E3
2002 Zone. You can also talk about events and other things related
to E3 at the
Nintendo Zone Forum with me and other Nintendo Zone readers.
Star
Wars everywhere!:
(May
16, 2002)
Just
in time for the brand new Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones, Electronic
Arts officially announced and released screens of Star Wars Clone
Wars and Star Wars Bounty Hunter. Clone Wars starts right where the movie
leaves off, the beginning of the Clone Wars. You take place in massive
battles between the Droid and Clone armies. And in Bounty Hunter, you are
Jango Fett, a ruthless bounty hunter, who travels through a huge galaxy
in search of his next bounty. Look for Clone Wars this September, and Bounty
Hunter this winter.
GCN
Controller changes:
(May
14, 2002)
Hot
on the heels of PS2's console price drop, Nintendo has announced that the
standard GameCube Controller's price will be $24.95 starting now. They
also announced that the Wavebird wireless controller's new release date
is now June 10th, 14 days earlier then originally planned. The Wavebird's
price has also been lowered by 5 bucks to $34.95.
PS2
price cut:
(May
14, 2002)
Sony
has slashed the Playstation 2's price from $300 to $200, to get the jump
on Microsoft's expected cut on their X-Box console. This brings the PS2's
price at the exact same level as the GameCube, and with the inclusion of
a DVD player, it's extremely stiff competition. Nintendo will almost certainly
lower the price of the GameCube to keep up with the PS2 (and soon X-Box)'s
price cut. Expect it to lower to at least $150.
400,000
in Europe:
(May
14, 2002)
On
May 3rd, the GameCube launched in Europe, selling 80% of it's core shipment
(roughly 80%). The average number of games joining each console was
2.3, and the average age of GameCube's owners their were 23 (Interesting...).
Europeans can look for Smash Bros. Melee on May 14th, Pikmin on June 14th,
and 50 other titles by summer.
New

GameCube
online this fall (Modem Prices!):
(May
13, 2002)
Nintendo
of America announced today that they will be launching the GameCube's online
network this fall. They said that they will offer a dial-up modem
and high-speed internet adapter, both at a suggested retail price of $34.95.
The first game to take advantage of the GameCube's online capabilities
will be SEGA's Phantasy Star Online. Nintendo is considering several of
it's key franchises to include online capabilities. Nintendo also said
that it will not require royalties from developers who charge money for
players to play on their servers. Nintendo also stated that all the games
published under Nintendo will be FREE! But it could be a different story
for other developers.
PSO
testing servers:
(May
11, 2002)
SEGA
has announced plans to shut down three Dreamcast Phantasy Star Online servers
(the Carme, Anake, and Leda) on May 25 to be overhauled for the GameCube
trial versions of Phantasy Star Online: Episode I & II. The trial version
will be released in Japan this spring, and will include an online campaign
and an off-line four player mode, but will not include a single player
off-line mode. Rumors are that the game will be released this October,
and will be included in Nintendo's online plans that should be announced
at E3.
Nintendo-
Largest E3 space?:
(May
9, 2002)
On
the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) show web site, there is a map
showing the locations of all of the show's participants, and Nintendo appears
to have the largest space, followed by Playstation, and then SEGA. Check
back here May 21-24 for news, impressions, screenshots, and more when E3
hits Los Angeles.
New
Star Fox from Namco?:
(May
6, 2002)
Insiders
in Japan are saying that Nintendo and Namco have been jointly working on
a new Star Fox game for the GameCube and Arcade Triforce for a short period
of time now. The game is said to be in the franchise's classic 3D shooter
style of gameplay. An official announcement is expected towards the end
of this week.
Europe
GameCube launch results:
(May
6, 2002)
On
May 3rd Europeans finally got the hands on the GameCube, a long 6 months
after we in the states received ours. And by the look of the turn out there,
the GameCube has been widely accepted into the European market, even with
such a strong PS2 hold. It's estimated over 10,000 units were sold during
the first hour, and 50,000 units have been sold in Germany alone. I hope
everyone who just got theres is having a fantastic time!
More
