Family Background:
Derik was born to two professors at a mildly prestigious University in the Eastern part of North America. Nothing spectacular of note until Derik was 13. While on an archeological Expedition to Calidon IX Both Parents were Brutally Murdered before Derik's eyes by a group of pirates. Derik was taken in by his Maternal Grandfather, a Retired Commander in Starfleet, until his 16th Birthday.

Other Background:
At the age of Sixteen, Derik decided to apprentice in a civilian merchant fleet. While there Derik specialized in hand to hand and intraship combat and tactics. Derik served in various Security positions on several ships until he was promoted to Senior Crewman and assigned as the Tactical Security Coordinator of the SS Ravenwing. Derik resigned this position for an opportunity to go to Starfleet Academy.

Derik was assigned to the USS Lancelot as the Chief of Security. Derik was rapidly promoted and fast tracked towards command. Derik is recently retired from being the Commanding Officer of one of the Best Ships and Crews in all of Starfleet, the USS Lancelot.
